Default Exhaust/Performance Options

While I'm sure most of the users are older and probably are not interested, but from reading some of the threads and searching I have found the following information -

Pre-cat Delete Kit

V3 Precat Delete Kit

I also contacted him (Richie V6) and he has informed me he is also working on a J pipe for the Pilot for release sometime later this year.

RV6 V3 Long Tube J-Pipe 04-08 TL and 03-07 Accord V6

Both of these combined had some crazy gains on the J series motors in the TL and Accord.

Assuming I go this route - has anyone else done a full exhaust (increase diameter piping) and a performance muffler? I have searched around and saw nothing on the internet - so I am guessing it will have to be custom.

Going with lower back pressure is likely to drop your low end power were you pilot spends most of it's time.

I think you'll find that there's not a lot to be gained by doing all this. I'm just not sure the cost of changing things over is really worth it in my opinion. The Pilot is never going to be a high performance car because it was never designed to be.

The gains seen on the TL's was ~40hp/40tq (with both pre-cat delete and J-pipe) which is crazy impressive.

RV6 V3 Long Tube J-Pipe 04-08 TL and 03-07 Accord V6

That was just for the J-pipe. With nearly identical motors I cannot imagine it affecting it negatively.

And obviously not a performance vehicle (I have my S2000 for that) but if I can gain something similar to the TL's for ~$800? that's a pretty awesome return to give it a bit more pep.

I say go for it, I'd be very interested to see what you can achieve on a Pilot. Just make sure to get a decent dyno pull before and after so we have something empirical to consider. Nothing personal but I've been around too long to trust people's butt-dynos far.

I'm tempted to, I'm going to wait until he has the J-pipe ready. I am thinking after those items have been purchased I will swing by an exhaust place near me and have a larger diameter exhaust put on with a Flowmaster (or equivalent) muffler.

Everything I have seen is the J series motors love to breathe - I may look into intakes next to pair up with the exhaust.

If you expect any noticeable gains from this, you will be mistaken, especially since your posted those 40/40 gains! Go to a performance shop, and see if they can tweak your ecu. You'll get better gains. It's kind of stupid to alter your exhaust system without altering your ecu...as well as wasting money. Adjusting your exhaust to to expect drastic results without adjusting your ecu, is like using your straw as a garden hose, and changing the hows end to allow for better flow to expect stronger water flow. As with the ecu, the straw is what limits the power, not the nozzle, or exhaust. Deal with the ecu first, since the honda has a really "rich" setup to begin with.

I realize I am new to the forums, however far from new in Hondas. My previous car was a '96 Accord I had done a H22A swap, chipped/tuned P28 ECU, suspension, exhaust, etc so very familiar with the requirement of tuning.

The gains stated were from my understanding/reading untuned Acura TL's with a very similar motor to ours. If tuning was required, I would imagine a VAFC would be able to handle most of it. The tuning capabilities with us being OBDII is probably a bit more limited - especially with the 4WD system.

I for one would be interested (if the price is right). My J-pipe is much more restricted than the OEM pipes pictured in the MDX forums. While I'm not looking for "crazy" increases a little lower end grunt (torque) would be useful. I've done similar mods on other cars and was happy with the results. Hold the chrome please, too flashy IMO.

I heard vinyl stickers add like 85hp @ the wheels.

I have not heard anything new regarding the j-pipe's from rv6- I'm waiting to see what he'll have for a bundle deal and do it all at once. The Pre-Cat delete kit is essentially a downpipe for the headers - deleting #7 in the following picture. (If I'm wrong please correct me someone)

in regards to a straight pipe, I think that would be a little overkill and you wouldn't see any real gains from it - just a bad BRAPPP noise.

Your post wasn't really necessary. This isn't Pep-boys nor is a group of people asking if an cold air intake will net them 20 whp.

I'm curious with this also. I have made threads but they end up going dead. Performance wise this forum is the last I go too. But hey if you hear of new weather Mats I'm pretty sure that will cause an uproar and get loads of attention.

I personally wouldnt mess with the sound of the j35. The j30 sounds like pure sex when opened up damn near Porsche sounding before the can went on my accord. I'm temped when the factory muffler falls apart to do a dual setup seen on the mdx and Benz. Let more of a raw sound come out.
