Default 2006 Pilot-A/C issue at Idle

We have a 2006 Pilot EX-L with just under 50K miles.

For the last few days, while sitting at idle for an extended period of time (waiting to pick kids up from school) the A/C stops blowing cold and blows room temp air.

Once we start driving, it will return to normal (blowing cold) after about 5 minutes.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Pete

Have it check for correct charge. Over charge and undercharging of AC can cause the system problems including freeze up which ruins performance of the system

make sure your electric fans are working. At idle you should hear them turn on and off. The air provided by these fans help keep the condenser cool when your not moving. Get your self one of those thermometers your stick in the vent. Autozone has them for like $5. If the fans work, then check the high/low side pressure with some gauges. Probably low on coolant. Remember if your low it leaked. If it leaked then so did your oil. If you decide to charge your self make sure to add some oil back into the system or your compressor will seize

I think the previous posters are dead on. I would caution against adding refrigerant yourself, unless you have experience with it and a good gauge set (honda also specifies using only Honda refrigerant). I had added r134 myself on another car w/ no problem, but on the Pilot I slightly overcharged it and paid dearly for it...compressor is very sensitive to overpressure and you could pay a lot of $ to fix it.
