Default K&N Intake

Im really hoping for a response. Has anyone seen or installed the K&N Intake system (not the drop-in) for the Honda Ridgline in their Pilot?

FYI:

What the Honda Service Bulletin doesn't say, is that the factory air intake system for the Pilot is, in fact, a highly engineered CAI. The air is drawn forward of the radiator, something many aftermarket systems don't do, even though they will claim otherwise.

Save your money!

Agreed. The cost of a K&N CAI for a Pilot will far out weigh the added couple of HP you might attain. Replace your stock air filter when it gets dirty and spend the coin you would have dropped on something nice for your wife/gf. You'll likely be rewarded with something better anyways

the 2009+ pilots have a redesigned intake system that pulls air from above the grill (pictured). 2006 and below pilots don't have this. i'm guessing it pulls air from somewhere behind the bumper, on the driver side. anyone know for sure?

Outside air is pulled from below the left headlight assembly. Air is not pulled from inside engine compartment.

You might consider the new Amsoil Ea filters.
They use microfiber technology, and supposedly have less restriction while still trapping at least as much crap as a paper filter.
Plus, they are good for at least 50K miles, and are easily cleaned by periodic vacuuming or some gentle low pressure shop air. No cleaners or oil to mess with.
I don't believe Typhoon or other intake systems will have much effect. Certainly not without other changes, like exhaust.
Plus, they will be louder.

AFAIK Amsoil doesn't make a drop in filter for the Pilot.

using their online parts finder, i was only able to find one air filter for the pilot - the 46802-EA WIX air filter. is this the one you are referring to?

i did a quick search on google and another forum suggested that the WIX filters are basically plain paper filters, and that the amsoil 'premium' air filters (i believe they're called 'EaA') are still being developed.

Yup, those are just the plain Wix filter you can buy from any Napa auto parts chain. It's the EaA ones with the MicroFiber technology that you/we want.

I have never understood the attraction for intakes and aftermarket filters for street vehicles?

The breathing performance of the Amsoil filter does not fall off as fast compared with paper filters, as contamination builds up.

Plus, it can be easily cleaned 2 or 3 times over it's life which is easily 3X that of a paper filter.

The filter was actually developed by Donaldson Filtration Solutions.

You can read about the technology involved here:

http://www.donaldson.com/en/filterme...ers/index.html

I don't buy or sell Amsoil lubricants, they are over-kill IMO for most applications, not to say they are not quality products. The air filter is one I can see that does offer greater benefits than paper, and is also cost-effective.

Nothing wrong sticking with the stock filter, just replace as required.
