Talking $35 intake

hello my fellow pilotees. would you like more performance, gas milage and sound from your boring old pilot?

well of course you would
AND you can acomplish all this for UNDER $35

just follow these steps below\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/

0.buy a filter with a 3inO.D. like this one
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/3-HI-...Q5fAccessories

filter
1. got your nearest home depot and find the plumbing section
Photobucket

2. find the precut pvc pipeing
you will need at least 15in. (i just bought the pre cut 2ft section cause i dont feel like dealing with the super slow associates)
2 3to3in. rubber connectors
1 3in 90* STREET bends
it will look like this\/\/
Photobucket

3. go checkout and pay the cashier $21.40

6.take the 3to3 and conncet one end to the throttle body
WARNING:the actual throttle body diameter is 2.5in(home depot doesnt sell a 2.5to3) which means the coupler will require alot of tightening but it WILL FIT
Photobucket
Photobucket

7.cut the 2ft section down so that the pipe and 90*bend will fit from the throttle body to the middle of where thw stock airbox was

Photobucket
Photobucket

OPTIONAL AND RECOMENDED sand and paint the pipe with a high temp engine paint(not krylon or plastic paint)

8.connect the other coupler to 90* and one end to the filter
Photobucket

9.admire all you hard work

Just wondering how converting a carefully designed factory cold air intake system to an intake that draws air from the hot engine compartment will give me more power, mpg, etc, etc? Where did the Honda engineers go wrong? Any test results?

Good work. That was a cool write up with pictures.

Hot air...you could always build some kind of partition to separate the hot engine air from the filter.

also there was nothing wrong with hondas except it didnt flow enough air plus the piping is larger and the filer flows more and can suck more air in due to there being no restrictied filter box

Doesn't warmer/hotter air equate to better MPG while cooler/colder air equate to better performance/more HP?

Holy crap I hope that contraption holds up!

I know, I ain't 17, so my value equation is all mucked up. As a result, I'm looking at this, thinking if a piece of that PVC breaks off or if that rubber (or clamping) fails under throttle, then your pilot's gonna suck it in and its gonna be NASTY. And I know what I would do to my 17 year old if he tried to send $5 of toilet pipe through my pilot's engine. [shiver]

Not to take you from the fun I'm sure you're having, but THINK OF YOUR POOR MOTHER!

its extremly secure and safe

as for the impala its already been done and painted 2600 miles and still works great and my mom dont know the difference except for when i get on it and she says "why does my truck sound like a racecar"lol i laugh and colder air also equals better mileage because the cooler air combusts and burns better with the fuel

CAI's are generally overrated and a intake like this that makes no attempt to draw cold air is probably going to be less efficient than the factory system.

Sorry, your claims are unfounded and frankly don't stand up to the common sense test. The factory system is actually pretty efficient.

common sense is more air=more power
more power=less stress on the engine=better gas mileage
and for the $35 its common sense the only difference between mine and the K&N one is the looks and K&N one is 10 times more expensive

and most pilot owners dont pop open thier hood to stare at their 250hp v6 so it goes unnoticed and ill tell everyone now i got 16mpg with the impala before the intake and i now get 18

as for the pilot on my last full tank i got 15mpg i am now on my first full tank with the intake and i will tell everyone what i get when my tank gets to empty

Im still optimistic about how this will work, especially after seeing your youtube videos with it. Post back when you can with MPG results. While I agree that common sense says the Honda stock one would be better, I also remember that Honda's goal with the pilot was not max performance, but comfort and noise levels. I dont know...its getting late, im getting tired, so maybe i dont make any sense...lol
