Default Cruising Range

Just curious how far everyone else is able to drive before refilling? I travel with wife, 2 toddlers, 7 year old & can't seem to get higher than 255-300 miles (13-15 MPG) before refilling. Tires are at 35, car is properly aligned & air filter is new. Mix of 60/40 city/hwy driving. Is the car just too heavy?

It really depends on the type of driving you're doing and your driving habits.

I just went on a road trip with the family, and filled up the tank at 370 miles with 17 gallons. This was cruising on winter gas at 75mph.

I usually fill up between 375-425 miles, FWIW.

On my long interstates runs I usually limit it to 350-370 before I fill up again.

Whether the limit is 65 or 70, I'm usually just over that.

Much beyond 75 and mpg crumbles into the teens. Otherwise I get anything between 20 and 22. No obvious reason why it varies.

i get 15-17 in mixed driving and i have larger wheels an tires. i gained about 1 mpg taking the roof basket off. i'm taking it from LA to SF next month so i'll see how it does. the last time, we took the 5 home at 80-85 and averaged 16-17 mpg.

350-400 on Interstate trips at 82-85mph. Can't figure it out, seems to be the same at 70mph....that'w with 20's and 255 tires which surely offer more rolling resistance than the stock tires.

what year is your pilot? 2WD or 4WD? mileage? my 06 4WD with just over 51k gets around 370 miles with mixed 70% highway/30% city driving.

there are many factors to consider in mpg--driving habits, having the ac on, windows/moonroof open, road conditions, etc.

This trip to the rockies and the sierra nevada, I averaged 19-20mg with cargo box on top and a fully loaded pilot. taking the I-5 south at blistering pace especially in grapevine left me with 17mpg where the average speed was 90-100mph. and yes on premium.

Just came back from a 2K mile road trip - DC to Florida. Cruising from 65 to 75 MPH (wife driving) we were able to get a little over 24MPG. With me driving 75 to 85 MPH, the average was a little over 20MPG.

That trip is about perfect for getting good gas mileage. Those southern interstates are FLAT. The drivers cruising through VA and the northern states all see hills, etc., which will kill gas mileage.

Your mileage is not unusual.

I get about 270 miles per tank around the city.

Driving 65mph on a flat interstate, I've got up to 430 miles on a tank.

Driving the usual 75mph to 80mph on a flat interstate, i get 360 miles on a tank.

I've never hit the rated highway/city numbers.

On long-haul / over-the-road / all-highway trips, I consistently get 400 miles (~25 mpg) per tankful. In normal driving I get 275-300 miles (20 mpg). About 70% of my normal driving is highway.

When I first bought my 2007 Pilot, I calculated the gas milage at about 17 mpg. I have generally been getting @ 250 miles per tank, but there again my right foot would admittedly make one heck of a fishing sinker...
