Default 7 Pin Connector Question

We have a 12' box pop up with trailer brakes. We've read online that it's not recommended to install the 7 pin connector, anyone know why? For the mean time, we just bought a connector from the 5 flat to the 7 pin so we can atleast have our trailer lights work.

Thanks.

My husband read it online, I'll ask him when he gets home from work.

I know I've seen that somewhere here on this site too. I tow an 8ft box Fleetwood popup that weighs in right at 1500lbs.

My Pilot has the OEM 4 pin flat wiring that I installed myself a few years back. When my wife went to pick up the popup, they installed the seven pin next to my OEM 4 pin. It looks weird, but I alternate between my boat, ( which uses the OEM ) and my trailer.

I remember reading somewhere on HP.ORG that either the brake controller wasn't recommended or that it was a pain in the butt to install?

Either way, I'm interested to follow this thread because I don't have the trailer brakes being used when I tow behind my Pilot. Interestingly enough, I DO have a brake controller installed in my wife's Pontiac Vibe which is the main hauler of the popup.

It looks funny to see a brake controller mounted just under the steering wheel in a semi-import style car like the Vibe. It is the sister car of the Toyota Matrix. I sometimes feel like we're supposed to be in a big pickup truck when I see the controller light up when braking!

I have an 05 Fleetwood Sea Pine. Not having the brake is fine here in Michigan, but we go to Disney with the pop up once a year and need the brakes going through the mountains.

I installed a brake controller. Not that difficult, but a bit time consuming. Here is the thread I wrote up for a DIY.
