Default Impressive Mileage on long trip !

Hi,

We had 2 long trips on our new '07 Pilot.

# 1 : - This was a NJ-Niagara falls-Washington DC-NJ trip. Fully loaded with 5 passengers and 5 pieces of luggage. As the trip indicates, it was just highways..didn't use AC/heat throughout the trip..no hard acceleration and didn't use Cruise control either...Avg mpg : 22 mpg

#2 : - This was a NJ-Chicago-NJ trip. Both ways, it was night driving and mostly on cruise @ 64 mph. Just 2 passengers and 2 pieces of luggage...Avg mpg : 25 mpg ! ( It was really hard to keep it on cruise and let the traffic zoom past on empty highways)..But I wanted to test it out.

And back to normal daily driving conditions, I'm getting around 17-19 mpg.

I've learned to accelerate slowly, cruise at steady speeds, coast to the traffic light stops..to be honest, my driving habits have changed.

Its over 6800 miles now.

regards,
rintoo

Good for you. I also, couldn't be more pleased with my mileage, considering the Pilot's size, weight and performance. Though many here are not so happy.

I, too, have learned the Pilot's economy is sensitive to driving style, as in my last trip up north, I was more conservative than usual with speed, acceleration, etc and got an additional 1.5 mpg better than my previous best (24.5 vs 23). Same thing with in town driving as aggressive driving will get me 14 versus 16 if I have a light foot. I have only flat ground to contend with, thankfully.

I always coast to lights.

My problem is a hard gas, kills me.

I have a steel blue 2007 4x4 EX-L. navigation, back up camera and it came with roof racks.

I'm into off-roading with the Pilot. anyone else?

on my last fill up, i decided to try and get the best possible mpg in a mix of 80% city driving, 20% freeway driving. i accelerated very carefully, coasted to stops, went speed limit or below, and did not use a/c. my results were pretty impressive for 80% city driving: 19.21 mpg. however, driving like this was painful, as i'm more of a spirited driver. i guess i'll have to just get used to it in order to save $$ with today's gas prices...
