Default College dropoff, 1300 miles mpg report

Well, we dropped our first one is off to college this past weekend. So, we took the Pilot packed it with all her stuff and dropped her off at UCSD. Pretty sad seeing our daughter off for the first time. Anyway, put 1300 miles on the Pilot on the trip. 90% freeway averaging 75-80 mph. The rest is city driving. MPG averaged just under 20 mpg. Very satisfied with the gas mileage considering the speed and load.

Gone to a new home but not forgotten. Sold to a good friend.

Default same thing but different

In order to keep the state balanced, we went the other direction. We dropped off our daughter at UC Santa Cruz, ~700 miles RT from Los Angeles. 23.5 mpg, going up on I5, back on US101. didn't try hard to conserve this time, (last time hit 26 mpg). Am happy with the mileage on our 2003 EX 4WD - average is about 20 mpg mostly highway.

I'm glad to hear that you got good MPG on your trip....especially now that you are going to need the extra $ for the next few years.

Yea, I-5 is efficient but really boring. The heavy livestock smell sure wakes you up (I know, its not that bad, but I'm a city guy) !!. I've come to the point I don't care about 5mpg if I can get there sooner. It's a worthwhile tradeoff. My sister-in-law offered her Lexus RX 350 but it wouldn't have been able to hold all we took down and 3 people. Most UC's are pretty nice but San Diego has great weather. Our daughter could have gone to Berkeley but noooo. She has to choose the furthest one from us. But, it's all good because she is happy in a great learning environment.

Not to get political, but she is probably better off not at Bezerkeley!

We discussed her choices and she decided the learning environment wasn't what she was looking for. She wasn't going to get into the major she wanted either. The campus is close...a little too close though. I think she needed to go further away to truly feel she was "away" from home.

Yes, it's a good thing for parents as well as kids. Gives the kids a chance to grow and parents and opportunity to readjust to life when they aren't around. UCSD is far enough away, yet close enough to fly back home on a whim for a weekend or holiday.

My Mom loves to tell the story about how hard she cried when she dropped me off my first year at Virginia, and how much harder she cried 4 years later when I moved back in after graduation.

Ah, that's nothing. The current world record for gasoline vehicle fuel efficiency is owned by the French Microjoule team at 10,517 mpg! I'm not kidding.
