Default When To Change Oil?

Today was our first oil change on our 06 pilot as it just hit 15% with the light on.

When do you change yours.

I ask because we were at 5,000 miles today.

But on the window sticker they put to bring in back in 3,000?

Thoughts?

Just ignore the window sticker and follow the Maintenance Minder System.

Changing the oil every 3k miles is an old technique because it was easier to tell car owners that than to try to analyze their driving styles to determine when they needed to change their oil. In addition, the more often you have your oil changed, the more money the dealership makes.

Modern conventional motor oils can go at least 5k miles between oil and filter changes.

The Maintenance Minder System uses variables like temperature, idle time, distance of trips, etc. to determine when the oil needs to be changed.

This is a better option than just making a blanket statement that says that someone driving 3k miles in stop-and-go traffic needs to have their oil changed as often as someone who drives 3k miles on the highway.

Best case scenario would be to have a system installed that would actually do an analysis of the oil.
