Default muffler

anybody installed a performance muffler?

I want something louder than stock, but not obnoxious. I definitely don't want something that drones in the cabin.

I've heard good things about the flowmaster 70 series.

Your thoughts?

Don't get a Borla.

Yeah I've heard they can drone big time.

Have you had any experience with flowmasters? I've heard a lot about them, but never had one installed on my own vehicle before.

Flowmaster has an "SUV" series of mufflers, but I've heard even those can drone in the cabin at highway speeds.

Flowmasters are loud and compared to the Borla looks like a welded together tin can, very crude. One muffler you may look at is the Walker Super Turbo. I had one on my Eagle Talon Turbo and it had a rich deep sound that you could hear in the cabin, but it wasn;t as loud as the Borla. I put one on my Jeep CJ and it wasn't nearly as loud as the Eagle. They're not as expensive so if you don't like it you can take it off and not be out much. My real advice to you is leave it alone and don't put anything on the Pilot.

It's quiet in the performance section because not too many people have modified their Pilots for performance. A select few have done their own intakes and exhausts but that's about it. There's not a big market for aftermarket parts for the 3.5 (yet anyway) so that might be a reason why many have not done more. Some don't want to worry about their warranty because most buy new cars. Some say "It's an SUV for crying out loud, WHY!?"

Me? I installed an intake on mine and I did it only because I like the sound during VTEC My wife never drives it that fast so she doesn't even care that it's in there. If I had the resources I would try to install a muffler from a Nissan Murano/Infinit FX35/350Z, because I like the sound of those vehicles and they have dual rear exit tailpipes, IMO just looks cool (MDX). They're not loud, just a different/but distinct V6 sound, but then again, there's no guarantee the Pilot will sound exactly the same because of just the muffler So as of right now, I'm leaving it alone. I do have a Magnaflow on my swapped '78 civic wagon and it sounds decent. Don't know if any of this is relevant, but oh well

Good luck with it and let us know what you end up choosing.

What type of intake did you go with?

Lightbulb Muffler?

IMHO, if you don't want a lot of "BOOM" out of your aftermarket muffler, I'd encourage you to look at the Aero Stealth models at www.aeroexhaust.com.

I've talked with their tekkie folks and they seem to be pretty knowledgeable.

Personally, I'm considering the Stealth 163 which has a 2.5" inlet and two 2.0" outlets. (The smaller outlets give you a much wider choice as to what exhaust tips you might also want to install.) In my paticular case, it's just a matter of do I leave the factory resonator in place and "sleeve" the factory 2.25" pipe with a 2.5" pipe or remove everything from the cat back and install a 2.5" pipe all the way.

Good luck!

Let me know how it sounds!!

Anybody used a vibrant performance muffer? They have a flat black one that looks much like the stock muffler

Just realized I'd listed a bad URL for the Aero muffler (the Stealth 163) I'd mentioned earlier...the correct one is www.aeroexhaust.com.

Sorry for the wrong info.
