Default Japanese Rotors

I know we all seem to be having issues with the rotors on our Pilots. Several have gone with Brembo rotors but here in Canada I'm getting quoted $320 a set (plus pads, installation and our lovely 15% tax)

A mechanic friend of mine who works on Honda's says he can get parts from Japan that are better than the stuff we get here in North America. Anyone have any insight? Are the rotors made for the Japanese market better?

Roto problem? am I missing anything out? I don't remember reading problem with roto. or am I getting old on reading?

If u r referring the breaking too soft, Honda's break system are all like that. But it does get you stop no problem.

I'm referring to the warping. I have had them machined a few times under warranty. Its time to replace but I don't just want another set of OEM front discs that will simply warp after 20,000 kms.

oic. wow, 20,000 kms? seriously? hmmm.... my roto on my old CRV last me over 130,000 kms.

roto+pad= $320+tax as in Canadian dollar? That's very reasonable.

My old '89 Firefly for a set of roto+pads were over $500cdn (tax included) and the roto on that Firefly is probably half size of Pilot's.

Since the Pilot is not made/sold in Japan, I'd be concerned that any rotors you get would not fit properly or big enough to stop a two ton SUV (Japanese vehicles are much smaller).

The $320 is just for two rotors. As a comparison Tirerack.com has them for $65 USD each (ie/ $130 per set).

In reference to your CR-V, I had a 99 CR-V which was traded for the Pilot. We traded at 147,000 kms with the original rotors and pads.

I see you have an 06. Hopefully you won't have the premature warping. Only time will tell.

sjlee,

Do they sell the Odessey in Japan? If so, it's probably the same rotors.

Yes, they do sell the Odyssey in Japan, although it's quite a bit different than the US version. The Japanese version is smaller, lower, sportier and somewhat more luxurious. It also only comes with the 2.4L engine that is in the Japanese/Euro Accord (and Acura TSX). CVT and AWD are available as options as well.

The spec on the rotors looks like 300mm ventilated in front and 305mm solid in the rear. Not sure how that compares to the rotors on the Pilot, which has 11.8" ventilated (front) and 12.3" solid (rear).

Actually 300mm = 11.8".

Thanks for the info. If the price is right and they are better (??) I may consider that route.

I thought the price also including pads?

Exactly, my '97 was still the original rotors. I hope '06 wont have that problem.
