Default 2011 Winter Wheels??

Hi All I am new to the Forum. I just ordered a 2011 EX-L Pilot from my Canadian Dealer. The Dealer is throwing in studded snow tires as part of the closing deal. I have been informed by the dealer that because of the TPMS (Tire Pressure monitoring System) I have to install my Snow Tires on the OEM Alloy Wheels. I was told that I could buy 17" Steel Winter Wheels but because of the HIGH price of this option it was not recommended, a price was not given however. Now that the vehicle is ordered I have grave concerns about using my Alloy wheels in an environment that salt and road Chemical is freshly laid, every winter day. (Newfoundland, Canada).
Basically I am looking to see what others are using as there winter wheel tire option and what is the best economical combo to go with. Should I go with a 16" winter tire and wheel and purchase extra TSMS valves??
Any help would be great. My vehicle is being built in December and I take delivery in mid January so I do have some time to hammer out my best option. I have learned from my Harley Forum that the Dealer does not always give you your Best Economical option and that is what I am looking for here.
Thanks a Million and it's a PLEASURE to be On Board!!

My 2011 Touring should arrive in about a week. I went with a steel wheel tire package from our local dealer. They are cheap to buy and IMHO worth the $. I got 17" steel wheels, TPMS, totes, and winter tires for $1468.

I ski a lot and ran Toyo Observe snow tires from Les Schwab on my previous Subaru Forester to get up and back from the ski areas and was very pleased with their performance in frequently severe conditions here in the mountains of WA. Purchased the Forester with OEM steel wheels and had the Toyos mounted on them when winter arrived. The following spring, I purchased OEM look-alike aluminum wheels and had the OEM all season tires mounted. Switching back and forth with the seasons was easy from that point on. Just purchased a '12 Pilot LX with steel wheels and will again have new Toyo Observes mounted on those steel wheels, saving the stock Continental Pro Contacts for mounting on new aluminum wheels next spring. Re the Observes, Consumer Reports rates them excellent as a snow tire, less so for dry pavement.
