Default General Grabbers Hts

Just got the 245/70/60 grabbers put on. Some one left a garden rake on the freeway that trashed my tires so I had to get tires early and didn't have the funds for rims. Tires look great and don't really think I need new rims. Love the way they ride so far but it's been hot and dry so that's all they've been tested with.

After almost a month of these tires I'll give my impressions.

1. They are much smoother and quieter than the 225/70/16 LTX's they replaced.

2. Dry traction and braking are quite good. My LTX's would chirp quite often around some corners and when I was taking a sure faster than I probably should. The HTS hasn't made a single sound once.

3. We've been having some very wet weather (for Utah) the last couple of days and I've felt every bit as confident driving in the streets as when it was dry. I was really impressed with this. Even on the roads with standing water, I tried to make the tires slip a bit (as the LTX's did when I wasn't trying) and they held firm.

I can't wait for snow to start falling to really test these out. All in all I love these tires and would purchase again in a heartbeat.

Very, very highly rated over at consumer reports organization.... like #1 out of about 20 tires

Don't, DON'T, make the mistake of getting the UHP version of this tire. It looks awsome, with it's directional tread, but the unbearable noise and soft tread material is the pits....

Even though I didn't have very good experiences with the Grabber UHP, I did however, just get a set of General Grabber HTS for just over $525 installed on Tuesday. As I only have about 125 miles on em so far, I'll reserve a full review for a few months. Only thing I can say is the howl and waa-waa-waa-waa-waa is gone! The ride is fantastic and we've only had hot, dry days for the last 3 days, so wet weather performance has still yet to be evaluated.

I did also have some alignment issues, so I had a full 4 wheel alignment done to keep from destroying the new tires. So.... new HTS's and a new alignment, the Pilot feels better going down the road than it has in years!

Taputah, which Pilot do you have? You stated that you got the 245/70/(16) Grabbers for your Pilot to replace 225/70/16's you had on before. Why did you opt for wider tires this time around? Why not just get what the manufacturer suggested? Thanks

It's an 05. I bought it used with the 225's on it. I wanted it to look a bit meaner with the bigger tires so that's why I went with the 245. Very happy.

Plus they were about 20 bucks cheaper a tire than the 235 or 225

Not sure why I did it either... put 245's on it...

http://i726.photobucket.com/albums/w...y/SAM_0112.jpg

Of course, OEM was 235/70, but a couple of years ago, I went 1 size wider to 245/70, just for looks... and even then, you can't tell unless you're looking.

Our 1st gen wheels are 6.5" wide, but will take a 245 with ease. I've often wondered what 255/70 might look like. While I was out today, I noticed a Nissan Xterra with 16 X 7" wheels with General Grabber 265/70 all around.

It looked good on that vehicle, but I'm pretty sure we run into clearance issues at that size on our Pilots. Plus, all the websites out there say 7" is the minimum width for 255 and up.

Taputah, any pics? I'm a car/tire/mechanical nut and just love pics

I will vouch for these tires. I've had a set on for almost a year, and they have seen everything from light mud to snow and lots of road time of course. Got them in stock size installed for $500 OTD. They have been flawless in all conditions. I still cant see any wear so far after about 10k mi and we know how the pilot eats front tires. Very Happy with the General Grabber HTS.

True, true....

I still don't have enough miles on the GGHTS to be an 'expert' yet

I can tell you that the ride is smoother, the noise is GONE, with a capital G.O.N.E. !

The General Grabber UHP is soooooo very different from the HTS. Hard to believe they're from the same company. It was so bad with the UHP's that it almost scared me away from General forever.

The reviews I was reading online, plus people's experience here at piloteers.org kept me in the game. Also, my wife has General Exclaim UHP's on her 04' Pontiac Vibe and they're wearing fine ( she only puts about 8k per year on her car ). Her General's have been a great, low priced tire.

Where are people getting these fantastic deals with the prices of the Grabbers? I just ordered mine from Sears on Monday. Came to 568.00 with tax and installation. I was tired of calling this place, and that place to find the best price. Sears was near the mall, and I figured I could catch a flick while I waited for the tires to be installed.

CNJ, did you have to do anything extra with the TPMS when you bought your tires? If you did, the money you spent was a hellava deal.

Edit: I checked the 245/70/16's at Sears, and they were about 23 dollars MORE each tire.

Not sure this'll work, but here's a link to treadepot.com, where 4 tires in 245/70 are $468 shipped to Houston.

I know you already pulled the trigger at Sears, but maybe someone else will visit treadepot and get a good deal. I brought my quote to Discount Tire and they matched the price on the tires. Although Discount charges a bit much for mount/balance for 4 wheels and tires.... about $16 per tire + $2.50 disposal per tire. I think Walmart charges $10 and $1.50 for the same services.

I got mine through discounttire.com but it was close to 600.00 with the install and TPMS rebuild. I'm happy to pay the extra for install since discount tire has treated me very well when I have tire snafus and they have even taken care of tires I haven't purchased from them, most of the time for free.
