Default Goodyear Fortera TripleTred Vs. Michelin LTX A/T 2

I know that many have discussed this already but I haven't found an answer to my questions here.

My '06 needs new tires. I currently have Goodyear Fortera SilentArmors and have mostly been happy. I live in the San Jose, CA area and I don't drive in the snow too often so their poor snow performance hasn't really been an issue.

But, because I do occasionally drive in show (mostly if I'm visiting some friends in Pismo Beach and may hit some snow on the way down) I was thinking of getting TripleTreds this time. But, a look at Tirerack shows very good reviews on the Michelin LTX A/T 2.

The Michelins seem to be about the same in dry and wet, better in show and ice and quieter and better ride comfort. But, I'm also concerned that the people who are reviewing them may rate them quiet for a M&S, not for a regular road tire. Maybe the Goodyear is actually quieter but the Michelin is quiet for a M&S?

So, what do you think? What would you choose?

Thanks!
Larry.

The TTs are louder than the OEM Bridgestones, not sure how they compare to the LTX. I wouldn't call them a quiet tire, but they are not as bad as off road all terrain tires. You might check out Michelin Latitude Tourings, they are rated high for noise and comfort and still do pretty good in the snow.

Sorry for the thread drift, but did you consider the Michelin Lattitude or Lattitude Tour?

No I had not. Tirerack also has very good ratings for this tire and I like the low rolling resistance too!

Now I'm even more confused !

Any one else care to chime in?

Thanks!
Larry.

I put ltx AT2 245/65 r17's on my TL rims due to the fact that I had 110,000 miles on my last set (on a honda passport) and they were still good. The lot that bought my old truck even took pictures of the tires to advertise it still had good tread.

I've also had the ltx ms's on my tacoma, the at's give better bite in the snow/sand but are a little louder. We also deal with a lot of ice and hilly terrain and michelins have always done great for me. the best non winter tire ive ever run in the winter.

Seeing the reviews of the at's online just confirms that im not the only one getting crazy mileage out of them.

cant offer input on the triple treads never owned them. the michelins have been too good to me.

I put the fortera tripletred tires on my 04 Pilot I just sold. I will say, I probably did lose 1 mpg as they are bigger then the Integrity tires. However, they look so COOL. I can't tell you how many people said "nice tires" or asked me what they were. Even Discount tire guy said they were smokin (I got them at Sears). ha. As for handling. The first winter, they were great! I didn't slide if I didn't want too and the stopping was on a dime. The tread does grab onto cracks and edges of the road and pull in that direction, so be aware. The 2nd winter (current one) they still looked brand new, lots of tread left on them. I did slide a bit more, but we had a ton of ice then snow, so I am not going to blame the TT. I sold it and have an 06 Pilot now, they put new Integrity tires on it, so I will wait to replace them. Here is a link to my pilot with the TT's. Hope you can pull it up. Good Luck in deciding.

I have the Michelin LTXs and they are great.

The ride is more noise and bumpy than the OEM Bridgestones.

Handling appears pretty control with the Michelins.

Hi Rocky,

2 days ago I had Costco install the Michelin Latitude Tours and so far I really like them! I haven't done much freeway or wet driving but I can say that brand new Michelin Latitude Tours are quieter and smoother than my old Goodyear SilentArmor's with 49,000 miles on them .

Thanks for the suggestion!
Larry.
