Default Wheel Capacity will they take it....

Hi,

Just bought a new to us 05 Pilot EX-L and have some rims that I am wanting to put on. They are Mazda stock RX8 same vintage in an 18 X 8 inch wide and I think 45 mm off set, in hypersilver (colour) magnesium (guessing) non steel anyways...... Had them on my Darlin's 05 CRV..... so they will fit wheel stud pattern wise. Rims for the pilot should be stud centric or hub centric or does it matter? Was thinking a 255/55/18 tire and was wondering if the rims capacity will handle the extra weight of a Pilot? There does not seem to be any weight stamp numbers on the backside the rim indicating max weight just size 18X8...

any suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks

I think they fit. Below wheel spec fits 05 Pilot EX from www.tirerack.com.

That should look pretty cool.

As for Wheel capacity, the same question was asked years ago when people were looking at the TL wheels. Nobody got a good answer-but nobody has run into problems.

I would bet they would work fine.

I would not take it off road, tow, or otherwise use it at or near capacity without knowing the wheels met or exceeded the factory load rating.

I am surprised a "factory wheel" from a Japanese car does not have the weight rating on it.

Are you sure these were not dealer installed?

Have you found the rating on your Pilot's wheels?

Haven't looked in a while, but I seem to remember a discussion (similar to this one a while back) about them being stamped (I could be wrong)

Thanks guys,

I shall run a wheel over to the Mazda Dealership today...... There maybe code on the backside that I don't understand...heh heh... but all I can see is JJ18X8 and a 50 I will let you know how I make out....

N jay as far as I can tell these are the stock RX8 wheels in that they have the Mazda center caps the above notations.....and will confirm today.

In terms of 4X4ing or towing second vehicles ('96 & '97) are F350 Diesel crew cabs with lots O' aftermarket parts for 350hp and 650 lbft of twist at the ground...so no worries in that regard...

Thanx again,

jrc

So made a trip to local Mazda Dealership and sure nuff they are the full stock RX8 Rims......guys there said nope Mazda does not specify the weight max on these rims. Their feeling was that the rims would be fine though.... so now just have to do some reserch on 255/55/18....heh heh

Looking for tires that we can run primarily snow free as we have full winters (soon to be on the stock rims). Thinking that we will run the TPMS in the RX8 wheels and nothing in the stocks for the winter....

Any suggestions on tires in the 255/55/18 size would be cool...

thanks,

jrc
