Default Tire installer: BJs, Dealer? Does it matter?

I need to purchase tires for my 06 Pilot and am considering the Michelin Latitude Tour. I can purchase them on TireRack.com and have them delivered directly to my local dealer to install ($67) or I can get them for slightly less $$$ at BJs club.

Anyone have a preference as to who should install new tires? What would happen to the TPMS if I have BJs do this?

Thanks!

Daryn

The TPMS sensors are in the stems. They are reused with the new tires. It really doesn't matter who installs them as long as they do a competent job. I purchase at a local tire shop that has the best balancing equipment. The prices between all options/shops are usually very close and/or price matched, so I opt for the shop with the better equipment/technicians.

Normally costs me $100 to have mine done at a local shop with the best equipment and guys in town. I drop ship from TireRack to them then show up with my wheels.

I just ask my local shop to match the best price I can get (be it somewhere else or tire rack) and they usually do. That ended my purchasing from Tire Rack.

I live very close to the Indiana border and most of the shops here get their tires from them or their own distribution centers. I've yet to find one that will match Tire Rack. Typically the response is, "I can't go that low" or "You ought to buy those then." Fairly rude for someone trying to give them cash in hand.

If you negotiate you can ALWAYS beat Tire Racks pricing.

In this economy, a lot of places that wouldn't negotiate before are now negotiating.

Just put Yoko S.Drive on the TSX, maybe a month ago... couldn't get any of the tire shops to deal with me. All said they were either special order or when I told them the price, that's when I got the, "You ought to buy those then."

Daryn,
See my post about the Alenza and Revo's. Firestone matched the price of the tire and did not even take the shipping charges into account. I saved some major $$$$

The TPMS service is like $3 per tire - just mark your old ones so you know if they actually changed them or not!

I would do the Alenza's or the Revo's.
