Default Larger Wheels: Pros / Cons

What are the pros / cons of getting larger wheels ? Currently the 09 Touring has 17" rims and was thinking of going to an 18" or 19" wheel with a lower profile tire. Thanks.

Lower profile tires will give you a harsher ride. Larger rims will increase the wear and tear on suspension components because of increased weight not to mention you may need longer braking distances also. Just to name a few things.

Usually you'll see a drop in MPGs because of the added weight and increased rolling resistance. This can be minimized by going with a rim that's equal or lighter than OEM and finding a tire that is close to the rolling resistance of the stock Goodyears. A number of our members have gone with 18s and 19s w/o a significant decrease in ride quality.

Thanks for the info so far. I remember when we were shopping for a new car we looked at the Highlander and really liked the look of the Highlander with 19" wheels. I noticed the highend '10 Ridgelines come with 18" wheels. I wonder if this will show up on the '11 Pilots.

I doubt the 2011 Pilots will come with 18" wheels but ya never know. They just make the bump from 16" to 17" in 2010.
