Default Dunlop or Michelin

I am in the market for new tires for my 2006 Pilot. I have done some research and had decided on the Michelin Latitude Tour. BJ's has the tires but only in the size 245/70/16. Would it make a difference to get this size?

Also, when I called Mavis to get their price, they asked me why I was getting those tires and recommended the Dunlop Rover Tour (much cheaper).

Does anybody have any experience with either tire?

I am basically looking for good handling, all season, no off-roading, maintain good gas mileage, and I don't want a "truck" ride.

Thanks.

Well I can't see anything called the Dunlop Rover Tour on the Dunlop site. There are some references to a Dunlop Rover Tour LT out there but I can't find any specs.

Thanks for telling us about your need. You don't mention snow as a potential issue. Your location would be useful.

The Michelin Lattitude Tour is available in 235/70-16. The size change will give a slightly wider stance to the car. Its a great tire with good mpg claimed. It is however at the top end of the price spectrum.

Dunlop I'd put in the same catagory as say Firestone, who made some decent enough tires at a low price (eg LE and AT).

Any help?

Thanks for the response.

You are correct, it is the Dunlop Rover Tour LT.

I am in lower New York. Snow can be an issue (especially this year).

Consumer Reports lgave the Dunlop Radial Rover AT a good review and it is slightly cheaper than the Michelin.

Any other recommendations?

I small price difference between the Dunlop and Michelin makes getting the Michelin a far better choice.

Others to consider Bridgestone Alenza, Firestone LE/AT. General Grabber HTS
the Tirerack link hopefully will help you not confuse you
Good luck

Default The perfect tire

I have a set of Goodyear Fortera TripleTread tires on my '04 Pilot and they have been UNREAL! I haven't had a single issue with them, they stick to the road like nothing else in snow and especially rain. And they are really quiet! I would definitely readily recommend them to anyone!

Good luck!

I too will recommend the Goodyear Fortura Triple Treads as being great in rain and snow. However, with 35,000 miles on them I'll be lucky to get to 40K. For the cost, I expected to get way more miles before having to buy something new.

I had the GY FTT until today. They were problem free, good in snow, but did not reduce Road noise as I had hoped (from the original Integrity). Mine only had 34K on them and were about Shot. Discount Tire gave me $350 pro-rated credit for them...put me in Michelin Cross Terrains out the door for 430, and then there is a 70 rebate. So, new premium tires for 380...not bad. The Michelins ARE smoother, quieter. Nothing will cure the inherent Pilot Road noise I am afraid, but these tires help.

Don't skimp on tires just to save a few bucks. They are a pretty important safety feature in any bad weather. Plus, when that money is factored over the life of the tires..it probably won't amount to much anyway (maybe just holding off on going to dinner once or twice A YEAR!)

Just my $.02!
