I used Pirelli tires in the past on a Honda Accord. A good tire which gave good to excellent tire wear on a Honda Accord. The new 2008 Ford 3/4 tons I have bought in the last year all have Pirelli tires. So far they seem to be as good as any other tire out there.

Good brand with lots of different tires.
I would recommend the brand slightly under Michelin, but you need to find someone who has used the specific type of tire you are looking at.

Years ago Pirelli and Michelin tires were considered some of the best.
I see the price on Pirelli's at Tire Rack is some $50-$60 less then for Michelin. So I just wanted to see if anyone here used them on a Pilot. |

Akulla,
Still haven't got the tires yet? Every brand has good & bad tires... even Michelin. Which particular Pirelli are you looking at? Scorpion STR?

I can still roll on stock tires for two or so months so I'm taking time to explore other options besides M Latitude and G Grabber HTS which seem to be the popular choice among Pilot owners.. The deals at Costco and Sears are over for now. Tirerack still has a good deal on Latitude but i got my sights on Pirellies now and just wanted to see if anyone had any input on them. |

If you check recent tests by Consumer Reports, Pirelli tires have the highest rolling resistance, which they assert can decrease fuel economy on the order of 2 mpg compared to tires with the lowest rolling resistance.
According to the most recent survey of tire dealers by Tire Review, Pirelli was ranked second worst for product quality (only Continental was lower). The top three were Michelin, Toyo and Bridgestone. In the same survey, Pirelli was also ranked dead last for its handling of product adjustments - such as for defects or failing to achieve rated mileage. The top three were Toyo, Dunlop and Kelly. |

Pirelli and Conti used to be among the best tires.

Found a couple of 2004-05 posts regarding Pirelli STR tires. No real help there. Guess it's back to Michelin v Grabber Grabber is pretty tempting but I've also seen many complaints about their tires being defective . |

All may not be lost for Pirelli, after all.
The study results I previously quoted were for the 2007 survey. According to the 2008 survey, Pirelli has made a miraculous recovery in product quality, now ranking fourth behind Michelin, Bridgestone and Toyo. Regarding adjustments, they moved up from last to about mid-pack. By comparison, for 2008 Continental and General are fourth from last and next to last (respectively) in product quality and last and next to last (respectively) regarding the handling of adjustments. If you want to try the General Grabbers, find a dealer with a Hunter GSP9700 balancer so that it’s easy to determine if you're getting four good tires. Make sure that they're willing to try another tire if the road force measures greater than a certain value - 15 pounds, for example. They should also have a sufficient amount of stock in your size on hand, too, so that they'll have the extra tires readily available, if necessary. Otherwise you might want to stick with Michelin (because the chance of getting a defective tire is pretty low) or Toyo, Bridgestone or Yokohama because they also have decent quality control and will give you a month, or so, to try out their tires and still get a refund if there's a problem or if you simply don't like them. |

Our Volvo XC70 came with Pirelli STR (the STR-A is an americanized version with lower sound levels). Size 215/65-16.
Get about 35k a set out of them. Nothing terribly wrong with the tires. Definitely better than say the GY's Honda put on the Pilot. I think the Michelin Lattitude Tour tire would be a better choice.

I'll call the shop and ask them what type of balancer they have if I decide to go with Grabbers. Only one problem there, I was planning on getting them from Tirerack, so not sure the shop would have these tires in stock if the ones I buy are difective. To be honest this tire shopping is starting to drive me nuts. So many little things to consider before the tires are selected ![]()
