Default General Grabber HTS

Does anyone have an opinion on the new-ish General Grabber HTS? While I have seen it referred to on this board because of its #1 ranking in the latest CR issue (and also now on tirerack), I haven't seen any in-depth discussions of it (unless I missed them somewhere).

I'm replacing the OEM Integritys on my 2004 Pilot with around 48K miles - lowest tread is about 3/32 currently. Living in SW PA, we typically have messy winters with a combination of snow, ice, slush - just generally wet roads for most of the winter - and the Pilot has been slipping around lately, to the point where I feel unsafe. Road noise isn't particularly bothersome to me, but since I plan on keeping the Pilot until it dies (because I love it so much), treadlife is one of my main considerations.

I spoke with my three dealers of choice this afternoon - only one of the three even SOLD the General Grabbers, and none of them seemed to be in favor of them. (Two recommended both the Michelin LTX M/S and the Uniroyal Laredo Cross Country - both of those dealers indicated that the Fortera TTs have awful tread life. The third recommended the Fortera TTs.)

The bottom line is that there seems to be a good bit of inconsistency among opinions/reviews of my three main choices (GG, Michelin LTX M/S, and Fortera TT), and I'm looking for any insight you might have, particularly with respect to the GGs.

Many thanks in advance!

I think Michelin LTX M/S is the best All Season tire.

I just pulled the trigger on some Grabber HTS tires from tirerack. I'll let you know after the new year how they worked out. I'm gonna put about 2000 miles on them the first week I own them....on a trip to San Destin for New Year's....

I have General Grabber UHP's on my Pilot. They are primarily a street/dry/wet all around tire. Couldn't be happier, but I live in Houston, Tx. and we don't have snow to deal with.

We are leaving the day after Christmas to drive to Ruidoso, NM. There is some snow up in the mountains, so we'll see how well they do in light snow conditions.

I have put about 3,000 miles on my Generals so far and they are a really good value for the performance I've seen over the last couple of months.

Weighing several pounds more than the GY, you'll notice slightly heavier steering. You are less likely to notice the subtle change in braking though.

From the specs of the tire I feel that this would make a decent tire on a heavier full size SUV or pick up.

Most of the Tire rack reviews are done after less than 5k miles, with one exception. So read with caution.

Four Grabber HTS's balanced and installed. Noticeable difference from the old OEM's GY's. And they look MUCH better.

Reviews to come after the first of the year.

Happy holidaze folks.

No experience with the Grabbers. Currently have the Fortera TT's on the Pilot and they perform great in the snow. I just put the Bridgestone dueler A/T Revos on my truck and am really impressed with them. By Sunday we had a total of 2 ft of snow and I had to head into the office. DPW resources were short because of the ice storm efforts, so there wasn't much continous plowing going on. The Revos were performing so well, I was half way into the office before I noticed I was still in 2wd and hadn't put the truck into awd mode.

Tires were great. Hit some rainy spots going down and coming back home. No issues what so evva. The upgrade to the 245's gives the Pilot a better feel IMO. Good luck.
