Default Directional and uni-directional tires

The more I read it here, the more I am confused. So with few questions hopefully I will be more clearer.

1. What are difference between directional and uni-directional tires?

2. Are Pilot's GY stock tire directional or uni-directional ?

3. To rotate the tire, directional tire is one side front to back, back to front, then do the same on the other side? The uni-directional is front to back and cross X? (Based on the pic in the owner's manual).

4. Someone said on Pilot, always rotate tire front to back and cross X no matter what tires. Is it true?

1. directional tires are designed to rotate in one direction for best performance. these are the tires that you see with a V shaped tread pattern.

2. directional tires are easy to identify by the V shaped tread pattern as i said above, and they will have an arrow on the sidewall indicating the direction they should be rotating. it will be like >> ROTATION >> with the arrows pointing towards the front of the car. so with this info, you can see that the stock tires are non-directional.

3. yes.

4. you CANNOT rotate directional tires side to side. ONLY front to back. if you rotate them side to side, then the tire will be backwards.

does "uni-directional" mean "non-directional"?

When you get a spare, just make it one you know you can put on either side of the car.

whoops. i looked it up and uni-directional means one direction. so its the same as directional.

NON-directional means it can rotate both ways.

Unless you remount them, but I've never heard a recommendation for or against that.

Non-directional tires can be mounted anywhere on the car, regardless of rim mounting. Directional tires (e.g. GY Fortera TripleTreds) must be mounted on the rim for a particular side and direction of rotation, but they're all the same. It could be that "unidirectional" tires (a term I've never heard) come in two tread patterns, each dedicated to a side. I think the Corvette comes with tires like that.

Thanks, I think I am more clear now

Oh, I thought non-directional and uni-directional are the same.

So, if directional and uni-directional are same, my question of this thread/#1 should be directional and non-directional.

So, the stock GY are non-directional.

If I get another set of directional tires, when rotate, can I rotate front to back and do the same on the other side like the manual says or should I rotate front to back then cross X (like non-directional)? The reason I am asking because I remember someone in here said Honda required rotate tire on Piot is bit tricky??

you can only do it front to back and back to front. the tire must stay on the same side of the car if the tires are directional.

ignore what honda says because thats with the OEM tires, which are non-directional.
