Default GY Integrity's - Maybe I just don't know what I'm missing?

I'm in the market for some new tires and have done quite a bit of reading over the last week on this forum. Seems like one is hard pressed to find someone that actually likes the Goodyear Integrity tires that came on ny 2004 Pilot, but let me say this. I have 81,888 miles on my 2004 Pilot and are still running the original Integrity's! I am STILL not down to the treadwear indicators so probably have another 4 to 5K on them if I want it. My wife and I have never had an issue with them...always felt confident in heavy rain, etc. We do plenty of in-town driving and maybe 2-3 trips per years averaging 4 hours one way. I can't speak for how they handle in snow because I live in S.C. and rarely see any so maybe that's most people's beef? Anyway, I'm pretty anal about any purchase and always do a TON of research before making a decision, but am wondering why I should change what seems to have been an incredible tire for us. Maybe I just don't know what I'm missing? I welcome any comments or suggestions anyone may have in helping me make a decision!

Thanks

How have you found other tires on other cars?

What titres have you particularly liked or disliked?

My opinion is if they worked for you before then there's no reason to change. I had hydroplaning issues with my Integrities right off the bat.

If your happy with the response of the Integrity's then don't change a thing.
The major problem for me living in a snow/ice belt region of the U.S. is the snow/ice/wet responsiveness of this tire. These tires should not have been listed as an all-season tire. Overall just poor performers. In your region of the country they're probably just fine.

Jay,

If I understand your question correctly, you are asking if I've found other tires on other cars that I liked or disliked? The Pilot is our only "family" car. My other car is a 500hp 1995 Z28 Camaro and I can't seem to find any tires with decent traction on it

I haven't had any problems with the GY Integritys on our 2006 Pilot with 36k miles. They still have at least 50-60% of the tread remaining.
While the GYs are not bad, I think there are better tires out there. When it comes time to replace them, I'm going with the 245/70 16 Dueler H/L Alenza.

dj5,

So in your opinion, aside from the difference in price, the Dueler H/L Alenza is hands down a better choice than going back with the Integrity's ?

Is the Pilot your first "non-performance" car or light truck?

Personally I a Michelin man (and no, I am not talking about my figure), but I have generally liked Michelins better than most other brands on almost every car I have owned.

Depends a bit on your priorities as well. Do you want them quiet, with more traction, more performance oriented?

Our Pilot is the family ahuler so comfort & safety are hand in had for the priorities. And since my wife, frustrated Formula 1 driver, uses it daily the performance aspect comes into play a little bit.

I'm going a bit bigger and probably on the Michelin LTX rubber when time (a long way off for this still new ride). The Alenza's are my next choice.

I've had several sets of the LTX's with great performance on a couple of differenct vehicles...so I believe in the tire that much more. Good comfort, quiet, and better than decent performance.

Tires are so subjective...and so important. Would like to hear what you eventually go with. I like the tirerack.com site for the huge amount of info provided for comparison.

The Integritys for me in Colorado worked out quite well in the snow. I have to go to work no matter what the weather is duing. and I thought at one point that I was stuck in DEEEEP snow then I remembered that I could lock the VTM4 in 1st as soon as I did that I was out with no problem and it took me all the way to work and back. I have only 32K on these tires so from what I can tell I have a while yet to replace them. I am going to change them over to BF Goodrich All Terains KO 245/70 just cause I go fishing alot and want something a little more agressive, however I have yet to have a problem with the places that I have been. All in All i feel it is a good all around tire.

If treadlife is the main consideration, I can understand why you think the Integrities are an "incredible" tire for you. But other measures of tire performance are generally inversely related to treadlife. A tire with harder, longer lasting rubber will generally have a longer treadlife, but can also have less traction at the limits. Our Integrities were fine in snow when new but especially worried me in rain. Never had an actual problem but did not inspire confidence like our current Goodyear Fortera TripleTreds. I like to have an extra margin of safety when my family's in the car, especially since it is not unusal for my wife and kids to take Interstate trips into the mountains. It's great that you've never experienced a problem, but you never know when you might need exceptional grip on a cold rainy night and you need to swerve to avoid an idiot or drunk driver. If something like that were to happen, I want to know that my family is riding on some really good tires.

My two top choices are the Bridestone Alenza and the Goodyear Tripletred.
I gave a slight edge to the Bridgestone. Read the reviews and ratings and it should help you with your decision. I would recommend going with the 245/70. Let us know what you choose.

dj5,

i know this is probably a very newbie question, but can i go with the 245/70 size on my stock rims? if so, what would the advantages be going with that size vs. the stock?

thanks!

Discount tires says you can go up to 245/70 on the stock rims. As for advantage I will leave that to someone smarter than I
