Default Buying New Tires

Hi, I'm looking to buy new tires for my 2004 Honda Pilot EX. I searched around tirerack.com for some suggestions and I have 4 tires I'm considering:
Goodyear Fortera TripleTred
Michelin Cross Terrain SUV
Michelin LTX M/S
Latitude X-ICE

Any suggestions?

Hi. I'm new to the forum but have some experience with the subject. I have experience with the Michelin LTX on a Ridgeline...great tires and not too expensive...but a little "truckier" than some. My '09 Pilot Touring has the LTX also and I have no complaints at 5000 miles. My wife has an '04 MDX with the OEM Crossterrain. These are also great tires and look virtually new at 25k miles...9/32 tread left on the tires at the last service. I'll buy these again if I keep the car that long. Beware: The OEM tires are not necessarily the same as aftermarket tires with the same name. Costco had Crossterrains last year that had a completely different tread pattern than the ones that I have. I hope this helps.

Yea, I have my old OEM tires for about 50k miles almost and the tread is wearing out.
A friend of mine got the Michelin CT SUV tires for his '97 Pathfinder and '00 Mercedes GL350 and said they were great, but the price for them is a bit expensive.

Another option is buying the OEM tires from the dealer. If you were happy with them, at least you know what you are getting. (I've bought a few sets of tires at the tire store and haven't been happy with them.)

Hi hypelister:

So you mean the OEM CT on the MDX is not the one that Costco sales?
Could you post a picture of the tread pattern that on the MDX? thanks.

Like lots of people here, torn between CT and LTX M/S. SInce you have both of them, could you give your assesments on their adv/disadv? If you can only keep one of the two for a family crossover a.k.a the Pilot, which one it would be?

Thanks

Default N_Jay, any input?

Hi N_Jay:

Heard you have both CT and LTX M/S in another thread.

Can you comment on their adv/disadv.

From what I read, the LTX is better in snow, and CT better in Dry/Wet.

While what I concern most is the ride (noise& tread wear), and I don't have too much snow here (moved out of MI . Which one is quieter? The GY Integrity is about to make me deaf..

The CT wear more than LTX but has 65k warrantee, dose that mean if it wear out before that mileage, I can get a new set for free?

The LTX don¡¯t have that, and wife thinks that¡¯s the deal breaker¡_¡_

I drive mostly on the road, occasionally go fishing so the mud traction of LTX seems to be attractive.

But overall, like most family guys who have kids, I need a tire that makes my pilot a comfortable and responsible people mover.

Thanks a lot (for any input).

Nope, I have had only factory Integrties and Michelin CTs on the Pilot.

Have had several versions of the Michelin special Range Rover tire. This basically evolved into the CT, but started somewhere between the CT and the LTX.

I am a Michelin man (and not shape jokes) and have always been happier with their tires than other brands where I have had a chance to compare (not very often, but most people really don't)

thanks Jay, My concern on the CT is the treadwear, it's said that they gone fast and won't reach the 65k mark.
Since it comes with the 65k warrantee, dose that mean if it wears out before that mileage, I can get a new set for free and only pay for the labor?

How is the wear on your CT of the Pilot? Is it MUCH quieter than the OEM Integritys?

Had 65K on the GYs when I got a sidewall cut, and now have over 130K and the CT's are looking OK.

They were maybe a little quieter, but road better and handled better.

The GYs are not great, but I am not one of the ones who thought they were terrible or unsafe like some here.

Tire warranties are prorated, and if you did not do rotations it is usually voided.

How many miles do you have on the CTs and why are they "gone"?

Thanks for the inputs.

I don't have CT, but the reviews on tirerack had lots of complaints that it wears fast.

While I will do rotation every 5-6k, so should be OK.

Nope, treadwear warranty on tires is always prorated. If there is no abnormal wear due to negligence (i.e., out of balance, out of alignment, etc.), they will give you a percentage credit (e.g., if warranty is 50K and only lasted 40K, then it is 20% off) when you buy new tires from them.

Im a fan of the GY TT's. Not sure where you live, but here in the NW, they have done the trick with the occasional snow and lots of rain. Found the best price online (discount tire) and took that to the local GY store to match. Got all 4 out the door for $660.

here's my input....

The OEM BS was bad.... it last me leass than 40,000 miles which is 60,000km.

I took a road trip to Portland in the past weekend from BC. Went to Costco and got a set of CT which was $175/each installed/balanced with $20 off each tire for their promotion. ($155/each). No tax what-so-ever. Much cheaper than quoted in BC which is $220/each and up easily.

Drove back to BC and wow.... what a difference. It's so quiet so soft on hwy yet looks very nice. Wet traction is way improved and yet I have to be very careful with my steering wheel as little move on it result in percised movement whereas my OEM BS needs to turn more to get similar result.

Excellent tire for sure. I will test it out more in snow soon....
