Hi,
Does anybody have any advice or suggestions regarding locking lug nuts. I got a set of conical locks and when I went to put one on realized that it didn't match perfect and didn't feel right as I started to tighten it. I stopped putting it on and as best as I can tell, the Honda lug nuts are of the "ball seat" variety. I can't find anyone that stocks this type of wheel lock and just wanted to see what my options were before I coughed up $60 for the dealers. Thanks, Joe |

Most of the OEM locking lug nuts are made by McGard. You could check prices for one of their sets to see if it's any less expensive. [http://www.mcgard.com/automotive/] |

I have a different spin on locking lug nuts:
I have a set of original mags for summer, and a separate set of original Honda steel rims for winter. When I bought the steel rims, I was advised that I needed different lug nuts. These steel rim lug nuts have a plastic/nylon ring just above the contact cone/ball. My dilema is that I want to buy a set of Honda locking lug nuts, but the set that sells everywhere for around $34 seems to be made for the mags (i.e., no nylon ring). Is anyone aware of a Honda set made for steel rims (that has the nylon ring)? [Why, you may be asking, would I want to lock my steel rims? A new law that requires all vehicles to have winter/snow tires installed by Dec 15. Tire shortages are occurring and cases of theft are skyrocketting.]

Could you add a nylon ring? Not sure if that would work of if it would just break. Is the nylon usually built into the nut?
Are your steelies not rusted? I don't live in a winter weather area at the moment, but when I DID have steel wheels, they always had rust anyway--especially where the lugs seated. That would be your only issue. Not like the rust will spread. The lugs likely would cover the rust area anyway. My $.02

The nylon rings on the 'steel' rim lug nuts I got from Honda are integral. I think it would be difficult to add one.
Very little rust on my steelies....call me 'nuts' but I clean, wax and rustproof them in the fall and again during the winter when/if the temp warms to above freezing.

Ok, you're 'nuts'. ;-)
No kids, right? I hardly have time to tie my shoes and take the garbage out, let alone wax my rims. Ah, but wouldn't want it any other way! :-)

Only time I came across locking nuts was when a woman had them on a Range Rover. She a flat and no key to get them off having just bought the car not knowing about the nutz.
Needless to say it took some " persuading" to get the rim off...
