Default Just thought some of you might like this....

Some of you might've heard this song in some commercials and I read that this was also featured in "Finding Forrester" soundtrack. Anyway, here is the link. (yeah, it's been a slow day at work )

I read upon this guy's work (Isreal Kamakawiwo'ole) a little bit and seems like he had a small, but a deeply loyal following. Then I was rather disappointed when I found out that he died back in 1997. He certainly was not a one hit wonder though.

Also, I thought this thread can be used by anyone to tell the rest of us about songs/artists that they are fond of, but not many of us have heard. I'm always into discovering and finding out new music and artists.

Here's another artist I'm very fond of. I first heard this song of hers (Iris Dement) on Northern Exposure's last episode with Rob Morrow (anyone watch that show?) There was something about the lyrics in this song I thought was really, really cool. And I love this woman's voice. Anyway, hope you'll enjoy them.

I have 3 of Iris Dement CDs, Infamous Angel, My Life and The Way I Should. She does have a few others out, which contain works collaborating with other artists. She has quite a few songs with John Prine as well and he's one of my favourite singers too. My favourite is the first one, Infamous Angel, but they're all good.

If your local CD store doesn't carry her, then look on Amazon or some other online music retailers.

'IZ' First heard his rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow 2 years ago while I was visiting Hawaii. He has such a great voice. I highly recommend that you pick up Facing Future CD which contains the song.

Nice, good going, Art. Just to let you know, most of the songs are in "Hawaiian"? or is it Polynesian? (please pardon my ignorance) Not too many songs in English, is what I'm trying to tell you

WOW! I love that song, it always got stuck in my head, but it's one of those that you actually LIKE being there. Thanks, Rip!

I have a song in my library that I don't know how to share, how did you link us to that?
My guy has a very loyal fanbase, and I was one of them, very sad that he took his own life a few years ago.
Elliot Smith did a lot of the music in the Goodwill Hunting soundtrack. He had a very Beatlesque sound, but he really shines with his acoustic guitar, and great voice. I'd love to share the song "Between the Bars". Is this possible from my documents?

PILOTMOM, I'll try to track down that song and have it available to sample for others, like I did with the others songs. I put those two songs up on the subscriber webspace which my ISP gives us. We have loads and loads of storage and bandwidth available at my work, but it's strictly a "no, no" to use it for personal use.

If you like Elliot Smith, you might like Nick Drake as well. I'll rip a song or two of his from the CD and put it up to sample again when I get home.

OK, I'm home now

So, Eillot Smith's Between the Bars and Nick Drake's Pink Moon. I first heard Pink Moon in a VW commercial. I sometimes find it tacky that I find out about these great artists through movies or commercials, but I'm still glad, nevertheless.

PILOTMOM, It seems these two singers have something on common in that they both died young in apparent suicides. Nick Drake's cause of death was an OD of prescription meds. He died in 1974 though. Some people still argue whether it was a suicide or just a plain OD. Interesting how an underlining tone of melancholy is present in both singers' works.

Wow, Rip, you're magical
Thanks! I don't recall that song from a VW commercial. Very similar styles, I agree. What genre is this anyway?

LOL, you should put a link to They Might be Giants "ISTANBUL" now that song just has to make you happy.

We've been Iz fans for 2-3 years now, ever since the E-Toys commercials.
