Default April Fools!

Inspired by Colorider's April fool's post, I thought it might be interesting to have a thread of April Fool's jokes you may have come across (either as a perp, victim, or innocent bystander).

Not exactly a classic, but when I got to work this morning, every mannaquin, dummy, and lifesize bobble-head in the store were having a convention in my office. The shock of having "someone" staring back at me when I opened the door was a better jolt that a cup of coffee.

Someone gave me a message to call a Mr. Lyon and when I dialed the number it was the local zoo.

Someone left a message to my voice mail " Please call Ellie Phunt for the approval number of project xxxxx. Her number is xxx xxx-xxxx". It turns out that the number is the customer service at San Diego Zoo.

My mother's birthday is April Fool's Day, so naturally we have to get her good every year. My two boys, 9 & 5 years old, especially enjoy this. We just returned from her house (she's at work) where we did the following:

- Stood a blow up boxer doll inside her garage door so it will be the first thing she sees when she hits the door button

- colored her milk red

- colored her water green

- hid her remote controls

- unscrewed her light bulbs

- short-sheeted her bed

- turned around all of the framed pictures so they face the wall

- Changed her screen saver to scroll "MWAHAHAHA!!! Happy April Fool's Day!!!"

- installed rip-proof toilet paper

and of course, the old classics,

- carefully placed fake poop and vomit.

Imagine the pranks if it wasn't his mother...

I love radio station pranks. Yesterday a local radio station convinced locals that our water supply was tainted with dihydrogen monoxide.

http://www.thesunlink.com/redesign/2...l/438974.shtml

I still get giggles when i think about the station in San Diego that convinced people that the space shuttle was going to land at a small local municipal airport. It made national headlines. Text below is from an article about it.

Steve Cosio posted in the rec.radio.broadcasting newsgroup this item:

Undoubtedly, the funniest April Fools bit I've ever heard was created by Dave Rickards at KGB/San Diego.

He set it up as a news item .. the Space Shuttle was scheduled to land today at Edwards Air Force Base but, due to fog, will be making a last minute diversion to Montgomery Field -- a small municipal airport in San Diego.

He "interviewed" folks NASA and Edwards to confirm the last minute diversion.

Meanwhile, thousands of local listeners tied up traffic around Montgomery Field to watch the incoming shuttle.

They strung this out over a couple hours to give people a chance to get to the airport. The local news media was all over it, too.

Finally, the PD at that time played the part of the shuttle captain and listeners could hear the captain do "play-by-play" as they "approached" the small airport, "It's a beautiful day in San Diego..." "We're just a few hundred miles away and should be landing shortly..." Laughter and a huge "April Fools followed.

The kicker
The Space Shuttle wasn't even in space the day they pulled this prank off. It made national news on CNN.

(sorry for the late reply - been "off-site" for a while)

Last year, SF's Star 101 FM's Don Bleu show's prank was to say that the Golden Gate Bridge had been pimped out to a corporate sponsor (in the same way all of those sports arenas have had their names change - Candlestick Park became 3Com Park, etc.).

He said it was Coors and that they were going to put their marketing stuff all over the place - huge blow-up coors cans, etc. all over the bridge. He even suckered former mayor Willy Brown! He conferenced in Da Mayor with a "representative" of Coors.

I was cracking up at all of the outraged ppl calling in, etc. I didn't hear this year's, but my wife was listening in the other room. "Honey, turn on Star 101 - all of these ppl are made about something." Me: "What's today, honey?"
