Smile Let's see how smart you are ...

Those were the exact words of my friend who sent me this:

http://smallcampus.net/html/maths_ga...iverIQGame.swf

The rules are:

1) Only the father, the mother and the policeman can drive the sailboat
2) The mother cannot be left alone with the boys
3) The father cannot be left alone with the girls
4) The prisioner cannot be left alone with anyone from the family
5) The boat only takes 2 passengers
6) Click on each person to load / unload them into the boat
7) Click on the red lever to move the boat across the river

To start the game click on the big circle on the bottom right corner.

Enjoy!

p.s. took me about 15 minutes, I guess I need to be smarter ...

I finished in less than 4 minutes, but I've seen a similar problem before.

Default wish there was sound

at the end. After watching one too many Godzilla movies, I made up my own little song. And no, I won't sing it for you. Wait a minute, sure I will...

What did you think?

This was a variation on an old problem that's been around for a while, usually involving 4 people needing to cross a bridge or a river and each has travel and time restrictions. And it certainly was an interesting problem. I thought I was gonna solve it right away, but it still took me little over 5 minutes!

It was fun though and it tickled my brain, as little as it may be I got stuck a little once I had the two boys and the dad over on the other side, but figured it out. What gets me about these types of problems is that once you figure it out, it seems so painfully obvious that you kick yourself in the butt for not having thought of it right away. Anyway, thanks for the link, BK! If you have anymore like these, put'em up here.

I counted 17 crossings for me, just in case someone's trying to get some clues

a plethora of puzzles here:
www.greylabyrinth.com

that's one website that, all too often, makes me feel downright stupid... lol

RR, I hope you have a lot of time on your hands.

Not only are there archived puzzles, but there are also many puzzles in the discussion forums (and a heck of a lot of concentrated grey matter!).

Holy cow, Samuel, you aren't kidding!! These are a whole different kind of problems I've never encountered before. Just straight rigorous application of logic or a few permutation of the possibilities just won't do at all with these.
