Vaguely recall a Corp. involved in a give away of a military jet fighter or a tidy sum of money a few years ago. Seems the Winner chose to receive the jet as it's value was substantially more than the cash award. Last I can remember the Corp. was saying the jet offer was so far-fetched (and illegal) that everyone knew the real prize was solely the money. Anyone have information on a final resolution?

Is this what you were thinking about? Link to Pepsi jet ruling?
Friday, August 6, 1999 Judge rejects attempt by Pepsi drinker to get a Harrier jet NEW YORK (AP) -- Pepsi was only joking when it implied in a commercial that it was giving away fighter jets, and a Seattle man suing the company for his unusual prize should have known that, a federal judge has ruled. U.S. District Judge Kimba Wood said in a ruling made public Thursday that "no objective person could reasonably have concluded that the commercial actually offered consumers a Harrier jet." The ruling was a defeat for John Leonard, 24, who took it so seriously that he raised thousands of dollars when Pepsi implied that seven million points in its Pepsi Stuff merchandise campaign could be redeemed for one Harrier jet. "I thought it was a great prize," he said Thursday. The campaign had stickers worth various points denominations attached to cans and bottles of Pepsi. The stickers could be accumulated and redeemed for gifts, such as hats and T-shirts -- but not a Harrier worth $23 million. The company also allowed customers to purchase points for 10 cents each, so Leonard raised $700,000 among wealthy acquaintances and ordered himself a jet three years ago. Pepsi had rejected his claim but sent him some free coupons in lieu of the jet. |

That waitress did sue, and the restaurant settled up with her by taking her to a Toyota dealer and letting her pick any car off the lot. Google search it & then read about it.
Actually, this isn't a frivolous lawsuit. The law was on her side.
