Wink Kids These Days...

I've seen a few versions of this email over the years... Here is the current one making the rounds...

Quote:
If you're over the age of 21 you will enjoy this..

When I was a kid adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were when they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning uphill both ways through year round blizzards carrying their younger siblings on their backs to their one-room schoolhouse where they maintained a straight-A average despite their full-time after-school job at the local textile mill where they worked for 35 cents an hour just to help keep their family from starving to death!

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it!

But....

Now that I've reached the ripe old age of thirty-five, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today. You've got it so f***ing easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damned Utopia!

And I hate to say it but you kids today, you don't know how good you've got it! I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have

The Internet--
we wanted to know something, we had to go to the damned library and look it up ourselves!

And there was no email! We had to actually write somebody a letter--with a pen!--and then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the f***ing mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!

And there were no MP3s or Napsters! You wanted to
steal music, you had to go to the damned record store and shoplift it yourself! Or we had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ'd usually talk over the beginning and f*** it all up!

You want to hear about hardship? You couldn't just download porn! You had to bribe some homeless dude to buy you a copy of "Hustler" at the 7-11! It was either that or ****off to the lingerie section of the JCPenney catalog! Those were your options!

We didn't have fancy sh*t like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal! And we didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was it could be your
boss, your mom, a collections agent, your drug dealer, you didn't know!!! You just had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

And we didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like "Space Invaders" and "Asteroids" and the graphics sucked ass! Your guy was a little square! You had to use your imagination! And there were
no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen forever! And you could never win, the game just kept getting harder and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

When you went to the movie theater there no such thing as stadium seating! All the seats were the same height! A tall guy sat in front of you, you were screwed! And sure, we had cable television, but back then that was only like 20 channels and there was no on screen menu! You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on!

And there was no Cartoon Network! You could only get cartoons on Saturday morning... ...D'ya hear what the f*** I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK, you spoiled little bastards!

That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled, I swear to God! You guys wouldn't last five minutes back in 1980!

LOL, I can totally relate! I always use the example of videogames, 'COMBAT' Your guy was a capital I and little balls flew out of it sllowwwwwly. put put put. That was the music. Remember when the ET game came out??? How high tech I thought that was. Now I watch my kids play XBOX with Logitech wireless controllers, and think I was just tortured with my joystick that always ripped at the base.
Don't even get me started on the phone thing. It's ridiculous. Cell phones are great when you need them, but when I walk out of work and everyone goes into phone mode, plugging one ear and listening to their more important messages, I feel like flipping everyone off and saying, "didn't want to talk to you anyway!"
Am I the only one that hates cell phone use?

Nope! I have managed to survive without a cell phone so far. Asides from the mannerisms people develop, I don't want to carry one more thing around and don't believe what the industry says about their safety. With the daily news breaks about problems with this drug & that I suspect we will soon hear from some laboratory about cell phone safety.

I think if I ever get one it will be for emergencies only.

Hee HeeHee! Oh yes we had it so hard in the 70's and 80's! I was digging through my childhood closet at Mom's over Christmas and found my cassettes of songs I recorded off the radio...Styx, Charlie Daniels, Pink Floyd. I had to chuckle.

I heard this one from my dad, but my uncle lives in their childhood home now, and it is one heck of a hill...school bus STILL won't climb it.

That was great....I remember actually saying that I would never complain like that too! Well, now that I am one year older (I turned 29 on the 4th) I can start complaining....

BTW, I still think Atari was the best....well, when the games worked. Remember you had to blow really hard into the bottom of the game to get it to work? I wonder if that was helping or damaging it every time I did that.

I'm too young for Atari, but I remember doing that with our Nintendo! Great, now I have the Mario Brothers background music stuck in my head...

You are not the only one 74PilotMom and Chip. I have to have one for work, but I only answer it when I have to, other wise I caller ID and chose. I just had to bite the bullet and purchase one reciently, the Wife being due in 2-3 months with Twins I thought it was a great idea. I use it to call her now and hten, but it's mostly for emergencies.

When I was in San Diego for Christmas, I swear at least 40% of the people driving were using cell phones.l

We had a cell phone once, and it was great, no problems with service (verizon) and it too was only so I could find my husband while I was pregnant with my second child.
If I had one now, I'd do the same thing, use it like an answering machine, not my only link to a social life. It does not make anyone look 'cool' , 'rich' or 'important'. Just 'rude' 'inconsiderate' and 'insecure' (when used in excess)
I certainly don't think kids should be bringing them to school- jeez. Aren't the friends THERE anyway?
Remember pay phones? Remember them being a dime? I'm old!
