Default 2011 Ford Explorer

MAJOR SUV FUEL ECONOMY GAINS, TECHNOLOGY, STYLE HIGHLIGHT REINVENTION OF FORD EXPLORER | Ford Motor Company Newsroom

Ford - Cars, SUVs, Trucks & Crossovers | Ford Vehicles | The Official Site of Ford Vehicles | FordVehicles.com

Got to admit the 2.0Ecoboost 2wd at 28mpg is impressive....even if you can't spec it with towing gear from the factory.

I couldn't seem to spec it all on the Ford website - only the V6.....

It's a shame that they didn't build a small diesel for the Explorer (or use the rumored F-15- diesel engine). At least then you get get a powerful engine with 4 wheel drive.

This will be on my test drive list when the time comes to trade in the Pilot. The interior really looks to be head and shoulders above what Honda provides in the Pilot. I looked at the Edge when I was shopping last time and it was impressive (albeit a bit pricey). Had the new Explorer been available then, I might not be in a Pilot right now.

The Ecoboost isn't on the website right now. http://www.fordvehicles.com/suvs/explorer/2011/ has opened up during the day and you can spec it out.

Price wise it sits between the Edge and the Flex in Pilot price territory.

I like its looks much better than the current Pilot.

Ford says on their media website that it will be exported to 90 countries from North America. Its going to have to have a diesel to compete there.

I really like the new design. I know a lot of the purists are ticked about the unibody but I think it fits where the market is. It will be able to do what 99% of Explorer owners ask of it. I think Ford did a good job with it, and I really like the new Grand Cherokee as well.

Very nice, worthy of being on a shopping list. Needs another inch of ground clearance, though... same problem the Freestyle/Taurus X had. The thick, angled C Pillar probably makes the 3rd row a bit claustrophobic, too.

I saw one of these last week when on vacation in DC. I only saw it in the distance, rounding a corner. Wasn't sure what it was, but figured it was the new Explorer, since it obviously looks like a Ford SUV.

I was quite suprised to see it - had to do a double-take just to figure out what it was. It was black, so maybe the US Gov't got first dibs on them to replace their Tahoes/Suburbans/Escalades ... It certainly looked more substantial than the current Explorer. I saw mostly from the back, and like I said from a distance.

It might very well have been a test "mule" - or one used for photo shoots. Being this close to production, I'm sure there's at least a few floating around out there.

Well if you see brochure or publicity photos with Washington DC as a backdrop, then I'll be vindicated!
