Default Is my starter going out?

Every now and then (at the most inopportune times) I try to start my '92 2.8L V6 5-spd s-10 and nothing happens, the battery comes on (radio, lights, etc) but no clicking, no turning over attempts, nothing. Usually I end up calling my wife, she comes to the rescue, I push it while she pops the clutch and we can get it started. Once I get home, I can kill it and it turn the key again and it starts up just fine and that lasts for a while until the next inopportune time. So far this has happened 3 times in the last 6 months, with it twice in the last month. Is my starter going out, or the neutral safety switch (or clutch switch in my case since this is a manual?) or just some messed up wires. Do y'all have any ideas on how to diagnose it?

Thanks!

Any good mechanic can test it for you.

When it doe not work, you put power to the starter directly and see if that is it.
If it starts, then you work backwards to the safety switches and ignition key.

If I didn't drive an s-10 for so long, I wouldn't have a Pilot

I just called a mechanic and he said he could not find a problem if it starts. So that means having to tow it to him (when it won't start), then there might be a chance that it will start when it gets there. Very frustrating, I am starting to think it is an electrical problem

Have someone show you how to check the starter when it is not working.

Replace starter time with a reman with lifetime warranty.
