Helped a friend on sat 9/27 install a rebuilt engine in his car.
This was by far the biggest project I've ever tackled regarding automobiles. I've done all the service so far on my 2004 Pilot, 2004 Pontiac Vibe, and my 2005 Bayliner boat. I guess I'd say I know my way around cars pretty well. I've lowered cars, upgraded brakes, changed alternators, fuel injectors, etc... just never took an engine off the garage floor and put it in a engine-less car in the driveway. Kinda fun and was a learning experience. The link is the car owner's journey so far and my guest appearance begins about 3/4 way down the page ( 9/27 ) I'm wearing the Red Sox shirt.... not a baseball fan, but my kid's spring team was the Red Sox and I was an assistant coach. Plus, blue doesn't show the dirt/grease as much! http://texasnissans.com/tx/forums/sh...ad.php?t=10946 ![]() ![]() ![]() If you're bored, take a look at the thread. It has probably 100 pics and is pretty interesting IMHO

Just looked at other thread on the nissan site. Nice job although I did see one thing missing from all the tools, engine stands, etc. he needs to purchase a car lift for his garage. They make a scissor lift that goes maximum 4 ft. high.

He's not really a friend, just an acquaintance that I've met a few times at 240 meets. He bought the engine 'supposedly freshly rebuilt' from a fellow houston 240 owner. It had a massive oil leak right at the distributor, seems to be an easy fix 'cause that front cover doesn't have a factory gasket. You pookey one yourself with make-a-gasket stuff. Secondly, there was a substantial vaccuum leak somewhere. But, after 12 hours, not to mention I did some pretty heavy duty drinking the night b4, I wasn't in the mood to stick around to trace downt the vaccuum leak in the dark Tunergirl, you're right about the garage lift. The owner of the red 240 has a s**t load of tools, many more than I have, but no lift. Surprisingly, he didn't have a floor jack either. There was a point where we had to lift up the tranny a bit to get it to line up with the splines on the driveshaft. We wound up using his bottle jack out of his 10 yr old explorer, both the jack and the SUV were a piece of crap. All in all, I'm not complaining... Got to help a fellow, 18 yr old 240SX owner, while learning a BUNCH about my '91 in the meantime. Only thing broken on mine is the a/c and I just can't figure out what is wrong. I've been putting off the transmission fluid change for oh.. about 6 yrs now, but part of this engine/tranny install was filling the trans. with fluid. I already knew how to do it, just got a chance to learn from HIS car. My car sees about 3000 miles per year.A week later ( Oct 3 ) and his still isn't running. He has a job that keeps him busy and this is not a priority. He told me it spun a bearing back around Easter. It hasn't run since then. Lastly, Houston is a big town and his house is about 50 miles from mine. It's not like I can just pop over there to trouble-shoot, it is an hour each way to his broken down POS
