Default 2009 Subaru Forester

Looks like some nice changes in store for the little Forester (and not so little any more).

overall, i think it looks MUCH better than previous years. clean, simple-looking interior and looks good from the back, but i just don't like where subaru is going with that new front end look. just MHO

I think it is nicer than the new CR-V.

Thumbs down YUK!

Looks like a cross between a Vibe/Matrix and a Saturn! Also the 2007 Tribeca has a strong resemblance to the Chrysler front ends.......

I agree. I don't care for the styling of the new CR-V.

You are off a year. The 2007 Tribeca was the "old style" grill.

Subarus get great mileage at the expense of being horribly underpowered. Too much of a trade-off, IMO.

Ever drive a WRX or STi?

Actually, Subaru's are not best know for mileage, but for their AWD system.

The XT isn't too bad, 224hp turbo 4.

Never drove any of their turbos. Not interested in a turbo. I recently rented a Forrester on a trip to FL. I was very disappointed in the power.

I will say their AWD performance is better than most. I had an '82 that was only FWD and it handled as well in the snow as most AWDs I've driven.

We drove one of the new '09 Foresters this afternoon. It was the "X" (non-turbo). Overall, I was impressed. Very similar in size, ride, performance, etc to our CR-V. One feature it was lacking (compared to the CR-V) was fore-aft adjustable rear seats. Maybe not a biggy, but a feature I think is worthwhile.

EPA ratings are identical to the CR-V, but how well they do in "real life" remains to be seen.

If I didn't all ready own a CR-V and was looking for a 5 passenger SUV, I would give the new Forester serious thought.

You need to find a different hobby. And what do you mean by fore-aft adjustable seats? Is that like a sliding second row like the later Pilots and 2nd gen Highlander?

I gave that up long ago. With the new digital cameras, who cares about f-stops, apertures, spot-lighting, .... And red-eye reduction ain't all it's cracked up to be.
