Honda cans the Insight, plans new hybrid for '09

American Honda Motor Co. Inc. plans to kill the Insight hybrid this year.

The small, two-seat Insight, introduced in the United States in 1999, sold only 320 units in the first four months of this year. That compares with sales of 30,357 for the competing Toyota Prius, a family sedan embraced by environmentalists.

"Production will stop in September of this year and be discontinued," Honda Executive Vice President Richard Colliver revealed Wednesday, May 17, in a teleconference from Torrance, Calif.

Colliver said Honda is developing a new hybrid that will be smaller than the current Civic. But the new model will not appear until 2009.

Hybrids use a gasoline engine and one or more electric motors to power the wheels

I'm surprised, I thought they were popular here anyway, I see them around.

I've only seen one once in the last couple of years. This area is covered up with the Prius, a few RX 400h's, and the vehicles I see the most lately with new car tags are Camry or Highlander hybrids. They far outnumber the infrequent Accord or Civic hybrids.

Default Hey Jay,

Being a NJ native, I am familiar with that Yogi quote. Have you seen or heard about the Montclair, NJ neighborhood that Yogi lives in? You come upon what lools like a small neighborhood circle; either fork you take leads to the same place! Right near Yogi (Lawrence) Berra's house. If you are a Yankee fan, NJ is loaded with them. The Scooter & Sparky Lyle to name a few. Cheers!

Default cul de sacs.....

usually don't have an island in the middle blocking your view. What you are mentioning is a light bulb shaped space that when you approach it you can see every house ahead of you. This is different in that you really can go right or left. Do you ever bear left going into your cul de sac? If it was a cul de sac, I would have stated such. You assumed.............

MA is where they call milkshakes- fraps and circles- rotaries right?

A cul-de-sac is a dead-end street with only one inlet/outlet and a turnaround area at its closed end.

Cul-de-sac literally means "ass of a bag" (nowdays, cul in french is considered a vulgar slang meaning "ass" when used alone in a sentence) or "bottom of a sack" and has its roots in Catalan and French.

Our cul de sac has an island. There are three houses around it and both of us with left side driveways go to the left all the time. So you assumed I assumed........

NJ huh? Which exit?
