Default V10 Twin Turbo Diesel

Volkswagen is about to reintroduce the V10TDI TOUAREG to the United States. It will be released on September 1st.

The vehicle has:

313hp
553 lb/ft of torque
and gets mid to upper 20's MPG on the highway.

VW is going to send one of these vehicles to me for a couple of weeks to test out during the 3rd Annual Colorado Off-Road Rally coming up July 30-August 4th.

This is an amazing engine and I'm a huge fan of clean-quiet-diesel power. There will be a review in August.

Go diesel power!!!!

Did anybody else see the Jeep commercial with the dirty SUV's? "Dr. Z" talks about the diesel liberty and then goes to say coming soon the cleanest diesel engine ever (in America).

I wonder what they have up their sleve.

I agree go diesel. Love the VW Deisel, just wish they would sell the motor to another company.

MB is going to put the European V6 turbo diesel engine in the Grand Cherokee and supposedly going to use its "blu-tech" technology to make it emissions complaint (basically squirting misted urine into the exhaust).

VW does do great work with diesel power.. the problem is everyone else (including Honda) is getting on the bandwagon and I don't have to tell you what VW's reliability ratings are compared to Honda

Thanks for the MB information. I'm hoping the other manufactures join the bandwagon.

I was trying to politely suggest that they engine only might not have all the troubles. I know you like them, I do to a point, but won't buy them due to horrible reliability.

I'm on my third TDI now... The engines are good as long as proper maintenance is performed. If you think you can run past the timing belt change interval then you'll need a new engine. If you run the wrong oil then you will eventually need a new engine. I am friends with a number of TDIers that have a few hundred k miles... You just can't abuse them like a honda or toyota and expect them to keep going forever.

I got this confirmed today... the V10TDI that Volkswagen is sending will be the winning vehicle from the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

I don't know if it is the Number 1, Number 2 or Number 3 vehicle... but here is what it looks like.

The RallyVW TDI was the record holder for any diesel at 15:12.5 set in 2004... That was with a modified 90hp Golf TDI... Probably around 150-160hp with mods. Good to see the 300hp+ V10 monster eating it up. It would be nicer though if VW brought over the 5cyl TDI in the egg.

That is a great looking vehicle. I'm jealous.

Wonder when the auto makers will smarten up and bring us some diesel lovin to the US.

Very cool. My father was offered one of the first German Diesel Rabbits to test back in the late 70s. I inherited it for a year or two before giving it to my little brother. VW Diesels are cool IMHO.

How come VW is lending you such cool cars? Oh, and can I borrow it for a year or two when you're done with it?
