Default FITNESS TIPS...share your favourite exercise!

So it's winter...... & the start of holiday season, which means there's going to be a lot of time spent indoors & eating all those great holiday meals. There will be a natural tendency to forget about your fitness routines & get lulled into winter hibernation of physical inactivity. Well, I say.....DON"T DO IT! Now is not the time to forget the gym bag @ home so you have an excuse not to work out or say to yourself you're too busy or too tired.

I'm starting this thread to remind everyone(including myself) to keep up with their work outs because we all know how hard it is to get started again if you take a few weeks off during the holiday season.

I would also like to share my favorite exercise that I've found to be effective & hopefully will also give you the desired result.

My tip for today is the bicycle exercise, due to all kinds of “new & improved techniques & ab machines” this particular exercise has been forgotten or ignored which is too bad because it’s probably the most effective ab exercise. It works on the upper, middle, lower & the obliques……it has to be the most complete ab exercise out there & it doesn't require the use of fancy machines & can be done just about any time/anywhere. Give it a try.

Link describing the proper execution & it's benefits.

Here's my favorite:

It took 3 inches off my waist in 7 days of using it. Since it's about impossible for me to get out of the house for a jog, it's great for stay at home moms and dads:

I've found the best thing for that 6-pack abs look is dieting. You can do ab exercises until the cows come home, and you'll never see your adominal muscles until you get rid of the abdominal fat. I've seen lots of people with great ab muscles who only rarely do ab exercises. They do have low body fat however.

Great thread. I'm heading out to the gym tonight as a matter of fact.

You're absolutely right guitarman, proper nutrition is necessary to obtain maximum results from your workouts. Or one can get a liposuction or even surgically implant a six pack.

A friend of mine that I met at the gym had liposuction recently. He works out, lifts, rides a bike, and is very muscular, but could never achieve the look he was after. He was in a LOT of pain for several weeks afterward. Had he known then what it would be like, he never would have done it. As it is, the result was really no great improvement, and he resigned himself to the fact that certain body types are the way they are, and the best you can do is proper nutrition and exercise.

On the other hand, I know someone who had liposuction in the abdominal area, after trying everything else, and is very happy with the result. Wasn't going for the six pack, just getting rid of a lot of flab.

I love using the Elliptical. Keeps your cardio going and you can stay inside watching tv or listen to the radio....or in 74PILOTMOM situation, to watch the kids.

The best tip yet...also works the abs til you hurt..... except that with our busy schedules, not to mention trying to keep the two boys out of trouble I can't totally rely on your suggested method to stay fit.......ooooops I've said too much.

Now that's a great workout for the arms, more so if you have to constantly lift 40s to your mouth

CLA= conjugated linoleic acid

This is the first supplement that I believe actually does what it claims, it reduces bodyfat & promotes lean muscle development. I've been taking these supplements for the past 3 yrs with no ill effects & along with regular exercise & proper nutrition, I really believe it has helped me in maintaining my weight.

There is a lot of information out there on CLA, I suggest you do your research & consult you physician as I did before trying the supplement.

Also, I enjoy a cup or two of green tea daily which is reported to have properties to enhance your metabolism.

Borg, have you looked into creatine? It also promotes lean muscle development and strength.

I have used creatine, it increases water retention in the muscle. Good for performance, however once you cycle off the water will work its way out of your system and the "muscle mass" gained will be lost. It looks good while your using it.

Nitrogen Oxide (NO2) is the new thing in supplementation. A bit expensive, but it is supposed to increase blood flow to the muscles to aid in recuperation and increased "pump". I am low carbing it right now, so NO2 is not on my list until I lose eight more pounds. You should not take it while carb intake is below 40% of total caloric intake.

I'm also taking it a bit easier since I developed bicepital tendinitis caused by incline bench pressing 315lbs once a week for six reps over the course of a month. This is a heavy weight and I should have cycled back down to 275lbs, but I got greedy. It is much better and I have been training during the injury to speed recovery. I felt pretty good pressing 225lbs for six last week and I did shoulder presses yesterday on the Hammer Strength machine with three 45lbs on each side for six. Another two to three weeks and I should be 100%.

Anyone taking NO2 presently? If so, what do you think?
