No, not so far but I do have a child with severe allergy/anaphylaxis (milk) so I recognized your avatar. We are watching to see if asthma develops. Good luck.

Mine is a Milk/Egg/Nuts (after outgrowing wheat, chicken)

How old is is yours... mine is 2.5

The reason I asked about asthma is because he had a severe wheezing episode a month ago (probalby due to a severe cold he had had for quite some time)... he was on some medication which his pediatrician prescribed...

today we met with his allery doctor...he wants to put him on this preventive medicine (quite common for asthma)... but since its steroidal it has the growth side effects...

Ask your doctor about singulair 5mg, for children, it is none steroidal and maybe all your child needs to take. Ask about samples, try it for 15 days. If your child is non-responsive, then you can move on to the steroidal based medications.

issue is that he has not had any symptoms after that one attack...

because of him being high risk the doctor wants him to be on Pulmicort for atleast 3 months...

he says its real low dose of steriod (but all steroid have the growth side affect)...which makes us a little nervous... I will look into Singulair

Our grand-daughter was on Plumicort for about 3 years from age 2-5, Singulair did not work for her. Both of her parents are short 5'4", I'm 6'4", she will not be very tall either, but the Plumicort has not inhibited her growth. Her, allergist had her do 2 low dose breathing treatments a day.

Sorry, I guess yours is harder than mine. He is now almost 5 1/2 (oldest) and is OK with eggs, nuts, peanuts but VERY sensitive to milk (including mere touch).

When he was about 2, we had a couple of events of some exercise induced wheezing (and maybe one or two involving colds) and used the vaporizer (pulmicort I believe) a few times but since then it has probably gotten better (fingers crossed) so we have not been treating it. But we continue to watch and hope. Again, good luck.

Edit: sorry it was Albuterol mist, we discussed Pulmicort at one point but never used it.

Ram-

Do you have pets? i hear they can help, or it might be to late for a thing like that? Also look into some air purifiers for the house. My brother has the worst allergies (had to get shots and constantly not breathing etc) He found a company Ecoquest: http://www.ecoquestintl.com/FreshAir...index_home.asp

He says it has helped him a bunch. He describes it as the Ionic breeze from sharper image, that actually works.

Good luck.

I would be careful in regards to Ozone generators, here is one of many links warning against these type of filters.........

I have alleries, susceptible to bronchial asthma, and had a problem for a long time with my eustachian tubes not functioning properly, causing hearing problems. For quite some time now I've been getting injections once every week or two (back on a weekly cycle with pollen season starting) and take over tthe counter Claritin daily and use prescription Nasonex daily.

In the past I've taken Albuterol, Beconase, Ventalin, Allegra 180, and on and on.

The last time I was allergy tested, the doc told me I still had a mild reaction to dust mites and blackberries. I said that's okay, whipped out my Treo 650, and said "I don't use a Blackberry, I have a PalmPilot." He about fell off his stool laughing.

When I was a kid, I spent a week in the hospital, and the nurse would bring a nasty tasting Benadril around every 4 hours. I told her one time that the next time, it better be in pill form, or I was gonna throw up on her. Four hours later she came around with that godawful pulpy nasty mix, and I proceeded to empty the contents of my stomach all over her, me, the bed sheets, etc. Four hours later, the new duty nurse showed up with a pill.

I think another thing that helped me a lot recently is the new home HVAC system I had to have put in last September. Better filtration, humidity control, and generally better air circulating in the house.

Singulair can be helpful, and is worth considering for allergy or asthma. It is not an antihistamine, nor is is a steroid.

No solid evidence to show growth issues with inhaled steroids, because they are locally acting. Long term oral steroid use can be more of an issue for growth, weight gain, bone density etc. Lots of kids use pulmicort and do well with it. If it were my child I would consider Singulair first because it is an easy once a day chewable tablet. Good luck.

Disclaimer- I don't work for Singulair or Pulicort drug companies...

well currently its only for 3 months so its not such a big deal I guess...

The advantage of Pulmicort IMHO is that steroids have been used for soooooooo long that all theire side effects are well establised...

long term side effects of medicines like Singulair are well still being studied..

its like he was prescribed Eledel and Protopic for his eczema (caused due to allergies) when he was as young as 2 months old... ofcourse now they have the "cancer" warning on them .....
again luckly( ) his eczema was so bad at that time that those medicines did not work so mostly we used the steroid based medicines...
