Default Microsoft Office 2003

I am having increasing stability problems with Outlook 2000. This morning I was able to send a message with no problem but had to close and reopen it to get it to receive. Sometimes I have to reboot to get it to receive or send.

Also sometimes I will type in a message and when I push send it locks up and I lose my work. This problem I tried solving by rebuilding my machine and it did no good. The problems described in the first paragraph have started since.

I am getting frustrated and am thinking of upgrading but I don't know if that will solve the problem and the upgrade is so darn expensive.

Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've been using Office 2003 at work for a few months now. Everything seems to be no worse than before. I really like the changes in Outlook.

When you rebuilt your machine, did you uninstall & reinstall Outlook? That might solve your problems and save you some cash.

I used Drive Image to revert back to a version before I was having the problem. I suppose I could try a reinstall.

I'm wondering if the XP Service Pack 2 might magically solve it.

What are the changes in Outlook?

I'm wondering if I should just upgrade Outlook for $99 or Office Standard for $239 or Office Pro for $329.

I use Outlook all the time. Word and Excel occasionally and Access rarely but not never.

I'm wondering if I can update to Office Standard 2003 and still use Access 2000.

Man, there are a ton of them. The ones that stick out in my mind are the upgrades to the calendar, the new search folders, and the new mail indicator.

The calendar now allows you to compare multiple calendars side-by-side. Each calendar is a different color and as you navigate around one calendar the others move along with you. What I mean is if you advance one calendar to December, they all advance to December.

The mail indicator now pops up in the right bottom corner of the screen and shows who the email was from and probably the first 25 characters or so. Also the you can adjust the transparency of the indicator and how long it stays on the screen.

The thing I use the most though is the search folders. I can pull up all unread email headers from one folder. I can also see all messages I've flagged for follow-up in a single folder (you can pick from multiple colored flags as well).

You can probably get lots more info from Microsoft.

The folders sound great. I don't see the use for the side by side calendars unless you're in a corporate environment though, right?

Well for me, its kids in highschool, and a wife who is a district employee.

Others may have to find their own way.

Here is a link to the info on how to qualify for the Student/Teacher edition of MS Office.

http://www.microsoft.com/office/edit...ouqualify.mspx

It only has Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, but if you can live with that, and if you qualify, it is a great deal. Plus you can install it on up to three computers.

I do not appear to qualify based on my reading of that page.

Go to Wal-Mart or wherever you want to buy, nobody asks or cares if your a student or not. When you install it, it doesnt ask you either or if it does its just something you click on yes, no big deal. Anyone can buy it and install it, I did and saved at least 100 bucks off the non student version of office.

The retailers don't ask any questions when they sell it. There is no additional "qualifying" information requested when you install the Student and Teacher Edition. Shop the ads, you can usually find it for less than $130. I've installed it on three machines at home with no problems.
