Default Security Update for Mozilla/Firefox/Thunderbird

How often does this happen?

Interesting discussion taking place here. Get your updates for the Mozilla Suite, here, for Firefox, here and for Thunderbird, here.

Actually, they're more like a brand new install and really not an "update". Have fun!

You do realize that they are selling that book and it's copyrighted. O'Reilly may not like you giving it away...

I'm glad you remove it, we don't want you to get in trouble.
Last night, I was surfing the internet on some underground asian and european site that I visited frequently and I noticed a lot of them have a copy of the oreilly hack free to download.
So, I guess the illegal o'reilly hack copy is all over the internet.

Yeah, e-books are all over the internet. If you're familiar with Google search parameters, you can find them anytime, anywhere in open directories. Speaking of which, I have Google Hacks by O'Reilly....anyone wanna....just kidding

For those of you that use Firefox or Thunderbird (email client), both have new releases that fix some security issues (they appear to be the same issues in both programs). Firefox 1.0.5 and Thunderbird 1.0.5 were released a couple of days ago.

Mozilla apparently broke extensions in v1.0.5 of Firefox and Thunderbird, and have released v1.0.6 to fix that. So if you've installed 1.0.5, you might want to upgrade to 1.0.6 in the event you want to use extensions in the future.

It didn't take them that long to update from v. 1.0.5 to v. 1.0.6!

Most FF users already know this, but just thought I'd still post about this latest security flaw as mentioned here.

The quick manual fix (as cut&pasted from the link above). Mine was at TRUE :
* To manually change the browser configuration for Firefox or the Mozilla Suite, follow these instructions:
1. Type about:config into the address field and hit Enter.
2. In the Filter toolbar, type network.enableIDN.
3. Right click on the the network.enableIDN item and select toggle to change value to false.
* To verify the fix in your Firefox or Mozilla application, be sure to restart the browser and then follow these steps.
1. Type about:config into the address field and hit Enter.
2. In the Filter toolbar, type network.enableIDN.
3. Ensure that the the value for this item is set to false.

Anybody try installing and using Firefox v.1.5 beta 1? I'm interested in what extension/theme is incompatible w/ this beta version?

Thanks,
-john

You need to do this if you use Mozilla (browser+mail reader) too. Newer releases of Netscape are also affected, as is anything that is based on the Mozilla code.
