Question Web cam help!

Just got a Logitech quickcam zoom for my pc. My mother in law wanted the family to get web cams so she can see the grandchildren. I'm trying to figure out how to use it with AIM. Is it as easy as connecting with someone on your buddy list and clicking on the video icon? Tried it with my wife at work and no the camera didn't light up and the screen remained black. What do I do?

Make sure you have installed the necessary drivers on the PC connected to the web cam.

If there were camera programs included with the camera, use them to test the camera and make sure you can see your own image on your screen.

Okay, I've only done this with Messenger, but AIM is probably similar:

Start a conversation with your buddy and click on the camera icon. Your computer will send a request to your buddy for a video conference. Your buddy will have to accept to start sharing your video. (I'm not sure if it works without a camera on the other end.)

After your buddy accepts, you would normally get their video image on your screen and vise versa.

If you get an error message or the video conference fails, there are many things that may be interfering. The one I usually have problem with is firewalls. If my firewall is on or the preferences are not right or if the buddy has incompatible firewall preferences, the video conference will fail.

I know this may not help. But see how far you get and report back. Maybe someone with AIM experience can help. Good luck.

I'm wondering if that's the case. As soon as my in laws figure it out on their end, I'm hoping this deal will work. Thanks Tim.
