Unhappy Anyone have experience with DVD copy plus??

I bought DVD copy plus and have a question. When I rip the DVD, then convert it to MPG, the whole chapter of the DVD is there, but it only converts about 90% of it to MPG. When it stops the conversion, and I move the slider bar along farther, I can see the rest that it did not convert. Any ideas what is wrong? Been trying this all day....

Not really a direct answer to your question, but try this software. It is easier and works better.

I haven't used it, but I've heard mixed comments on it.

If you haven't already, head over to dvdrhelp.com - tons of info there.

I've come to the conclusion that using dvddecryptor, dvdshrink, and a burning program such as Nero is the ticket. However, I haven't actually tried it

Default DVD Copy, or DVD to VCD experts out there??

WHat is the easiest and dare I say, cheapest (Go freeware!) way to;
1) Copy DVD to DVD for use in the car (don't want the good ones getting trashed)
2) Copy DVD to VCD (for stuff that just does not deserve a DVD)

1) DVDshrink (freeware) and Nero burning software. The latest version of DVDshrink will launch Nero automatically (if you prefer this option). An OEM version of Nero Express can be purchased very inexpensively ($10 or so).

2) Haven't attempted this at all. Sorry, can't help you here.

Maybe Nero Recode 2 is what you need.

Sorry I can't help either Art, but as everyone else has said, use DVDshrink. It's awesome!!!

As sfhondapilot said, go to the link he provided as some of us who have used DVDshrink have posted a lot of info there. I hope you didn't pay much for the program. You can get Nero for $2.99 HERE

DVD --> VCD is a lot more involved than DVD --> DVD.

heres a guide:
http://www.videohelp.com/sefy/

i personally used dvd decrypter, DVD2AVI, TMPGEnc, and nero.

if you dont have a fast computer, DVD2AVI and TMPGEnc will take a long time. IIRC, for a normal length move (1.5-2 hrs) DVD2AVI took about 40 mins, TMPGEnc took about 2.5 hours. this was on a 2.2ghz P4 with 512 RAM. i tried it with my 600mhz P3 and TMPGEnc estimated almost 8 hours to finish encoding

You might wanna check out this link. Sorry, I haven't tried out any of the methods listed there, but that site's known for having detailed instructions and explanations when you want to do something with videos.

I don't think there's a single program out there that will take a DVD and make a VCD/SVCD out of it. You'll always have to go through a few steps to do. Too much encoding and compression going on. Anyway, hope it'll help.

Just wanted to add the following caution (as posted in the DVD-R burning thread):

Just a thought, which version of 6.0 do you have. While reading through the Ben's Bargains web site, I came across the following re Nero Suite version 3:

Nero Suite 6.0 OEM Suite 3

The Ultimate CD/DVD Suite! Unlike suite version 1, this software has the DVD-video, SVCD Plug in and Backup software included as standard and more.

*Nero OEM Suite 1 does not include the DVD Plug-In, which means that Showtime supports viewing of VCD video but not SVCD or DVD video. Likewise, Nero Vision Express supports burning of VCD but not SVCD or DVD Video. The Suite 3, however, does include all that!

I have been using the above combination exclusively, and it's quite simple to use. More importantly,
1. dvddecryptor and dvdshrink are free
2. received Nero when purchasing my dvd burner
3. works on OEM dvd players

I went through several Monsters, Inc., blues clues and others before realizing that DVDs and kids don't mix well...they scratch too easily. I now backup all my kids dvds and have them use the backup. I keep the originals where they won't reach it. When the backup gets scratched, I just burn another backup from the original.

Couple of things to remember when making backups:
1. check dvd to see if it's in 1 layer or 2 layers using dvd decryptor
2a. if 1 layer, you only need dvd decryptor. Write to hardrive using iso write from dvd decryptor. Then using the decrypted files from hardrive, burn to DVD. You basically have same files...no compression.
2b. if 2 layers, use dvd decryptor to file write to hardrive first. Open dvdshrink and open the files that have been written to hardrive. burn the files (will compress and burn) using dvd shrink. Make sure to burn at x1 otherwise you might have problem playing on OEM dvd player. I have tried at x4 and x2 and at both speeds, my backup skips.

I have had good luck with Ritek G04 DVD-Rs.

That's assuming that you have Nero. DVD Decryptor and DVD Shrink both uses Nero as burning mechanism. They by themselves do not burn.

Do it all the time...Maybe it depends on what version.

Ver 3.2 or greater
Open in DVD shrink, after analysis, select bakup and select target as ISO image and burn with DVD decrypter after encoding and DVD decrypt launches, replace DVD original with blank and presto a copied DVD. Just delete the ISO file afyterwards to save space on your HD.
