Default Digital Camcorder

Can anyone recommend a Digital Camcorder? I really have no Idea on where to start. I would like something the can take still Images and that I can transfer the Video to my PC so I can burn to a DVD. It should be small enough so I can take with me when we go out to parties and family gatherings. I was looking at the sony dcr-dvd300; But I don't really know. My Budget is up to $1K.

Thanks,
John

I'm surprised that jay didn't ask for a thread merge by one of the moderators...

I've been using Sony DCR-PC105. I opted it for its size without sacrificing features and convenience. It's been working very well. But if I had a choice now I'd go for DCR-PC109 that is newer and even smaller.

DCR-DVD series are nice but bulkier. Also I consider my miniDV cassettes as raw video materials. I usually take more video than I really need in order not to miss any important moments. If I burn a DVD I'd rather edit those raw materials and arrange a smoother flow of events before finalizing on a disk.

I recently purchased a Sony TRV-22. Love it so far...
If you have an older camcorder then I would recommend buying a new one with "passthrough" technology so you can transfer you old tapes to the new camcorder and/or onto your computer so you can burn DVDs of old movies.....

Please see this site for further info....

Happy Shopping,
