Default Question for Ramirami

From the DVD recorder thread, you stated:
"I have just ordered a panasonic DMR E80 from DELL. ITs priced at $699 but dell had it (after a bunch of discounts) fro around $450.

Has a 80GB hard drive and record in DVD-R and DVD-RAM formats"

So have you gotten it yet?
I'm in the same boat with the home videos and am interested in DVD recorder and just wanted to know what you think of it.

I haven't even started shopping for one yet, but thought I would I ask here first:
I have a digital camera and save all the pictures to disk. I would like to be able to set up slide shows on the TV just as you do on your computer. Is this possible with one of these?

Thanks,
G.

PS: Before this gets out of hand, I'm not intersted in Tivo or Ganja

I got my E80 some 10 days ago and I love it. Have been coping and editing all my home videos and saving them on the Hard Drive....the DVD-Rs I had ordered are being shipped...

Its a beautiful machine..love the TIVO functions...have made a couple of Teletubbies DVDs (of PBS Kids). If you plan to buy a DVD recorder my recommendation is to go with one with a Hard Drive and for the street price of <$500 the E80 is great.

However you will not be able to play JPEG files. It only plays back hummmlets see now...HDD,DVD-R,DVD-RAM,DVD-V,DVD-A, VCD, CD, MP3

I gues if you convert your digital pictures to VCD you might be able to see it.

Lots of info on DVD recorders specially the panasonic ones is here on avsforum.com

also check out this thread on dvdrhelp.com for a pictorial view of working with the E80.

P.S. No Ganja maan..

Well, I'm not going to discuss ganja either, but since ramirami already mentioned TiVo ...

I think you can connect some TiVo DVD recorders to your home computer to show all of your photos on your TV. I think this may require the TiVo Home Media option. I haven't gotten around to doing this yet, but I do see it as one of the items on my main menu.

Jay probably knows all about this. Jay, come in, Jay, TiVo question ...

Yes, with the Home Media Option and TiVo Desktop software on your Mac or PC, you can play music on the home theater system connected to the TiVo, and play photo slideshows on your TV.

I use iTunes and iPhoto on my Mac, and play music or slideshows through the TiVo.

The TiVo website has more info for Windows users:

You can use TiVo Desktop to publish music and photos to your TiVo Digital Video Recorder (DVR). This process allows you to specify which music and photo files will be available for playing/viewing on your DVR. The files are always stored on your PC, so you will still have the same amount of space to record programs on your DVR.

Only files that are in the supported file formats listed below will appear in the preview frame of TiVo Desktop:

The Music feature can play music files saved in the MP3 file format. It also supports playlists in the M3U, PLS, and ASX file formats used by common PC music players.

The Photos feature can display photos saved in JPG, GIF, BMP, DIB, and PNG file formats.

Take a look at the TiVo site.

As Kramer would say and do (hold up the left hand) and say "AAAAAAHHHHHHH"

Not interested in tivo!! No monthly garbage for me! I pay cash, and I only pay it once!!

I would just like one simple system that would let me view both pichtures and video.

Now if you want to drift this to porn, then I'm in

Well, you can pay a one-time TiVo fee of $300 instead of monthly installments. Oh, and there's the $100 Home Media Option. I admit it's not cheap.

I'm no expert, but it seems to me that the TiVo functionality makes the whole DVD recorder experience so much easier and it also allows for the photo functionality you're interested in.

If you ask me, Kramer would be a TiVo nut!

On that pay radio, do they have an "All Paul Harvey" station?
If they do, I'd know what to get my dear ol' Ma for her birthday
