Talking Apple Users Unite!

I started out with an Apple IIc in 1984. It was the integrated portable unit and keyboard that connected to a 9 inch green monitor. I later upgraded to another Apple IIc that supported a 13 inch color screen. My two Apple machines lasted 6 years, and were great fun. In 1990, I made the mistake of buying an XT clone, and hopped on the upgrade train.

I went through a myriad of "compatibles" until February of 2002, when I saw the light and moved back to a 12 inch iBook and 15 inch flat panel iMac. I later gave the iBook to my Mom, who loves it, and got a 15 inch TiBook. I now have the TiBook, a 17 inch PowerBook, and a 20 inch flat panel iMac (killer display) and I'm loving it.

This stuff just works. iTunes, iMovie, iDVD, bluetooth, you name it. I've not spent a single minute without the use of my Apple machines since the switch, and regularly spent hours or a day or a weekend rebuilding a Windows box.

I know there are other, probably very long time, Apple users in the honda-pilot.org community. Stand up and be counted.

Started off with a II+, went to a Mac SE, followed by a Powerbook 145, a slew of hideous Windows machines, and now a 12" iBook. I'm jealous of your 20" iMac!

My first was a Quadra 700 with a 17" Apple display monitor. I've had everything from 8600's to G3's and everything in between.

I prefer laptops now. Anything you want to do on a desktop you can do on a laptop plus it's portable.

I currently have a loaded 17" Powerbook G4 with a 20" Sony monitor hook-up. The monitor gives me extra desktop space.

Do you guys use Apples for business or fun? Or both? I use it for both.

Default iLife and Keynote Rule!

It's good to see a few of us are still around. I started on Macs in '89 on an SE and a Classic. I've had a Performa, Quadra, and now have a 14" iBook and a G4. I am a teacher so using something easy on which my kids can learn is always a plus. I was given four new PCs for my classroom this year. I let the kids use those while use my older G4. I really dig using Keynote. I like to blow my PC pals out of the water when they see my presentations made on Keynote compared to their common PowerPoint. The wow factor is huge when they see the 3D transitions for the first time.

Macs continue to be a bit pricey but in the long run they seem almost indestructable. I know that I am preaching to the choir but I love the plug and play. I recently got a Airport card for my iBook. I was up and running in minutes. A half a dozen teachers in my building using wireless PCs still can't connect after months.

BTW Has anyone seen the 20" iMac? It has to be awesome!

Default oops missed that

Didn't read your post closely enough, Jay. That 20 inch dispay has got to be somethin'. I love how Apple is always on the cutting edge. Who else has something that can compete with the 20" G4 flat panel iMac? NOBODY, that's who!

My Macs are my personal machines, but I do use them for work as well. I work for a computer manufacturer (not Apple) and have a UNIX workstation and Toshiba laptop (running Windows 2000) at work. I frequently take the Toshiba laptop home and use it to connect to work with VPN over my wireless network/cable modem.

We have a Blue G3 tower upgraded to a G4 and networked throughout the house. We also have a G3 Powerbook dual firewire that the kids use. With the oldest going off to college soon we wil be getting another Powerbook..G4 or G5 this summer. We also run Virtyal PC on the MACs for those Windows only siutations.
We started off with a Mac Performa back in the old days and they have been very faithful ever since...more than 9 years?
I use Windows at the office and it is amazing how much more stable and user friendly MACs are.

Hey, similar experience here...

1984 Apple IIc
1986 Cubic (Apple Compatible)
1988 Dark Side
1990 Mac LC
1992 Dark Side
2002 iMac LCD (I want that 20" too !)

Love the Apple and the Mac, especially the ease of use and how it simply helps you get things done, but there is always something about the Dark Side that draws you back...

Default Mac's Rock!

I am a "switcher" My home computer was a Windows 2000 machine. I bought a G4 because I couldn't resist OS X. After 1 year of using OS X. There is no way I could go back to Windows. Macs just make computers fun to use.

The iPod was the killer app that pushed me back, and then I discovered that with iLife you can productively use technology and still have a Life.

What's iLife?

Just curious as until all the games I know & love work as well (if not better) on a Mac, I'm staying over here

Well, except if I have a game-only system & then a "production" system.

<must resist...resolve slipping...>

Jay! I knew I liked you, now I know why. I started macs in the SE/Classic era, though I have a small Mac museum, incuding a 20th anniv. and a Lisa. (ok, not a lisa, the XL. but close) and a lot in between. Our business has been very mac heavy for years...mostly the tech guys use unix, and macs if they want a GUI. PC's are kept the accounting ghetto (and we recently converted them too YAY!) With all the viruses, the only time we got hit bad was some sales guy or admin who wanted to use a PC because they weren't that computer savvy. Not savvy enough to virus check either...plus of course, they only want to use Outlook too. We stress diversity.

my fav machine was my 2400. I loved that machine. I still have it. My G4 12 inch is almost as nice. A little too square. Mr Clarity is on a 15inch.

It's the greatest bundle of integrated software you'll ever run across:

iTunes for your music collection

iPhoto for your photo library

iMovie for your video

iDVD to burn your iMovie work to DVD.

Very nicely integrated. Wanna play a slideshow of that last set of photos, with music playing from your library - click click, enjoy the show.

Wanna add a soundtrack to your last holiday Movie- click click done. Wanna strip that frame out as a still -- click click done.

Wanna add stills to your movie from your photo library-- click click done.

Wanna burn that movie to DVD with chapters, etc. etc. Go right ahead.

Spend your time using your computer, not downloading drivers or quarantining viruses!
