Default Netscape Browser

A word of warning. If you use Netscape as your browser, be very careful BEFORE you download the new 7.1 version. They have a problem with it and it erases any bookmarks, passwords, and a lot more. I called and they realize thet have a problem but are warning anyone before hand. You must back up files before the update. That may help but they are not sure!

I installed Netscape 7.1 on my Mac running OS X version 10.2.6 a few days ago with no problems.

Did you download the entire new version or the update? I did the update. Don't know if it effects Apples or not. I have XP Pro version

It must have been the whole thing, as it was about an 18 MB download, and I could choose between 7.01 and 7.1.

I downloaded the full version of 7.1 on three machines and have not had the first problem.

Love the built-in pop-up killer.

I installed Netscape 7.1 on both the Mac OS X and Win 2000 and didn't have any of the problems mentioned. However, I did have the problem of the PC hanging after installation of Netscape (what else is new... ) but a reboot later, Netscape 7.1 worked perfectly.

PS: Don't forget the great tabbed browsing feature...

I never heard that about Netscape 7. There was a problem back with Netscape 4.x where it would spontaneously empty the bookmarks for no apparent reason. It happened to me and to two other people I knew personally. Since then, I've always run a batch script each day that backs up all my files to a server.

I have Netscape 7 installed but I only use it for testing (I do some web development). My main browser is currently Mozilla 1.4
