Default How would a wireless HP printer work with a Netgear router?

The set-up.

PC's
Netgear router - wired ethernet cable to a new PC running Windows 7.
Old PC moved to another floor with a Netgear wireless b/g card card installed.
Laptop(s) either wired or wireless to the Netgear router.

Current printer is an old Deskjet which still works (parallel printer cable attached to the old PC). Works for the laptops through the router->old PC-> printer.

Questions:
Since there is not a Windows 7 printer driver, I plan on buying an HP Photosmart Premium All-In-1 (Wireless n). How do I set up?

My inclination is make a wired USB connection to the new computer. How will a wireless laptop or wireless PC communicate with the printer? I understand the printer could handle a connection without the router. What takes priority?

Connect the printer to your router so that it can be accessed by all the PCs on your network. The printer should come with setup instructions.

My printer is a USB HP photosmart. I connect it to the router via a USB print server (you will be able to connect wirelessly) and any computer on the network can access it.

Thanks,
If I understand you correctly:
- a wireless connection to the router will allow any computer to connect to the printer including the PC also wired to the router.

Followup question:
if I have a wireless computer on the network, is it possible for that computer to see the printer both on the network(wireless through the router) and also as a standalone wireless device?

I don't quite follow the direction of your question, but if your wireless PC is part of the network, then it will only see the unattached wireless printer that is part of the network as a network printer. If it is not part of a network, then I don't believe it can wirelessly communicate directly with the printer. Having said that, if you also had a USB connection from the wireless PC that is part of your network to the wireless printer that part of your network, the wireless PC will see two different paths to the printer, and when printing, you get a choice of which path to take.

Whew!!!

LCHism, Yes, I think you answered my followup question. As long as there's a choice between multiple options, it should work well.

Thanks

Regardless of how the printer is connected(usb, ethernet, wireless), you will need a print driver installed on each computer that will print to the printer. Without a print driver, the computer won't recognize the printer.

Good point. I should be able to pull that into each computer from the HP software or their website.

The Easy Way:

Buy 2
Have one shipped to me
I will send you detailed step-by-step instructions.
You can even call during installation for help.

At each PC or Mac, insert the disc that came with the printer into the drive. There may be one or two choices you have to make while its installing, but the heavy lifting is done by the software itself.

How about if I just give you access to the network?

Nope, the free instructions only come with a printer I can test them on.

I would not want to give you any bad advice, not being able to pretest and all.
