Thumbs up Cordless Home Phone

The GE cordless 5.4Gh phone in our home is turning into junk. Anyone have a recommendation for a good cordless phone for the home? Thanks.

They're all crappola. All of them. GE, Panasonic, V-Tech, Uniden, etc. I've probably gone through 3 or 4 different ones in the past 5 years. Lousy signals, bad sound, batteries that won't hold a charge after just a few months, etc. I've had the best luck with my current Motorola (2-handset). However, the numbers are wearing off on the buttons. Cheapness is becoming a field of endeavor.

I second the Panasonic brand. Especially their upper line phones.

Some Unidens and V-tecs also seem to be OK.

3 year old Panasonic system here, 5 handsets plus answering machine base, original batteries, no problems, clear signal etc etc. Also have an 8 year old Panasonic cordless ( 2 handsets )with answering machine that I use at the cottage, had to replace the battery once in 8 years.

Family members have V-Techs that work well but I've had good luck with Panasonic.

Switched from a panasonic 2.4mhz 3 handset to a Vtech 5.8mhz Model 6773 3- handset model in 2005. Vtech is holding up perfectly, still on original OEM batteries. Range and call quality are great.
My sister is still using my old panasonic 2.4 system but replaced all the batteries--she is happy with it.
Some are good some are lemons.

Are you sure you still need a landline? We have used only our cell phones for the last two years after cancelling our landline, and we have not regretted it for one moment. That's $30 more dollars in our pocket each month.

Thanks guys for the advice. I assume 5.8 mhz is the bandwidth to go with. Wife wants the landline. I'll check out the Pany models first.

I would do 5.8 GHz, but a lot of people also like teh DECT 6.0(1.9 GHz band) phones.

My first cordless phone was the best. It was an AT&T 5500. May have even been analog. I had it for about 10 years and it was bullet proof. Probably made by the last vestiges of Western Electric. I don't know how many times I dropped it on a hard floor with no effect. The sound was as good as the best wired phones. Clear signal with excellent range (whip antenna).

I can understand the cheaper construction of the new ones but I can't understand the lousy performance. The past few times we bought one, we tried several brands, got them home, hated them and returned them. It's hit or miss.

A good cordless phone is the RadioShack 900mhz model. I use this with a VOIP line in the house. Great range and battery life.

x2.

Ours are probably two years old and work great. Just got a headphone for them as well. One of those dammit I should have done that sooner ideas.

Within two years I suspect we'll be flipping our home line to a cell phone anyway.
