Xp repair Registry error help! - Honda Pilot

Following message has appeared

windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt \windows\system32\config\sys

Repair doesn't make a difference and I have the original disk

Should I try and create an emergency boot disk from another xp unit and get it to start up from there? If so how?

Rocky, just curious, have you resolved this problem? If not, have you tried bringing up the system in safe mode, and running the system restore wizard which uses a previous restore point? You can find info on this procedure in the help and support file under "system restore" or "restore point" on another XP machine.

Yup I've tried that inc repair and got a registry error

Going to check in at work for an emergency boot disk and see if with that in place I can get it going and get the repair funtion to work.

A computer friend did suggest getting another hd and setting that one up to boot from. Then seing if I can access the old unit

The registry error is in windows\system32\config\system sorry I messed that up before

You should be able to boot from the Windows disk or the recovery disk (if it's an OEM installation).

As soon as the road trip is over, I'm getting another drive, putting that in as the master, and will reset the messed up drive as slave.

If all goes well, I'll be able to back up the data of the now slave drive, then keep on trucking.

Once thats done, its on to home network possibly wireless printing.

How do you know there's something wrong with the drive? Sometimes it's just one bad file that needs to be restored.

FWIW, I pulled the hard drive out of the system, plugged it into another pc with an IDE drive and it worked perfectly.
So I'm in the midst of copying all the data files over inc all outlook files and address books. Then I'm just going to wipe it clean and start it up from the beginning all over again.

Why not just copy the file thats corrupted/missing from the good drive to the bad one?
