Ok, I'm at the end of my rope with this. I have a desktop (sony vaio) running windows xp home ver 2002 with service pack 2 installed.
I have my printer (epson stylus cx6000) hooked up to this computer via a usb cable. Everything here works fine. I have my hp laptop that I can print to this printer wirelessly (sp?). My laptop is also running windows xp home ver 2002 service pack 2. I can print all day with no issues. Now here's the problem: I cannot get my daughters new laptop (windows vista home premium) to print to the printer. If I directly connect it via the usb cable it works fine. I can see the printer on her computer via the network but it won't connect. I go to add a printer, then it asks me if it's a local printer or one connected to a network. I select network, it looks for a printer then shows the epson. I select it then it wants me to install a driver, I click that then it locks up. My only two options are to install the driver or cancel. I've loaded the drivers directly onto her computer and have turned off the firewall but it just won't work. We also have a shared internet connection and that works fine. This is getting frustrating. |

Sounds like specifically a Vista problem (not surprising). Have you actually tried selecting Cancel? May the logic doesn't dead-end; maybe the wizard continues.
You shouldn't have to install the driver - a suitable driver should come with Vista.

You also may want to download printer drivers directly from Epson for Windows Vista here:

You need to install it as a local printer, as counter intuitive as that may sound. I had the same problem, and after seeking help on the web found the answer. You will at some point in the add local printer dialog supply the network printer name. Of course, you will need to load a Vista driver for the printer in the remote PC.
