Default Domain transfer question

Any ever transfer a domain.

I just put in to do so, but the process leave me a bit uneasy.

No one knows when it will happen.
No one can tell you for sure if you have dotted all the "i"s and crossed all the "t"s.

I guess you sit back and wait a week, and if nothing goes wrong, then it is ok?

The process can take a week or more.

Some things to check:
1) does the present registrar have a lock on the domain. If so you will need to get them to unlock it.
2) make sure the e-mail address is current with the old and new registrars. Both registrars will likely send out e-mails requiring a response within a certain number of days.
3) make sure the transfer is started at least a couple of weeks prior to the expiration of the registration. Some registrars will not allow expired domains to be transfered for months.
4) make sure that the registration/renewal with the current registrar is at least a month past the last renewal. Many registrars lock it for at least a month.

In the past when I have had troubles, I have received an e-mail within a couple of days.

Hope this helps.

Most transfers I have dealt with have gone pretty smoothly. One was difficult when a friend had registered through their daughter's boyfriend (now ex) who refused to allow the transfer. That was a nightmare. Always make sure the ownership information is yours.

I am using namebargain.com to register mine. reasonable pricing and easy domain name management. They are a part of register.com. I host my sites elsewhere.

Well, I screwed up.

I thought I had changed the email address to the one I use all the time.

Seems 1and1.com send you an email to confirm the on-line order.

Since I did not answer it they never processed it, even though it was unlocked and ready to be taken from Godaddy.com

Since it expires tonight, I decided it was safer to renew with godaddy for another year. Next year I will transfer it but I will start a few months before it expires.

N_Jay, why did you want to switch from GoDaddy to 1and1, if I may ask? I've got several domains at GoDaddy.

I have my hosting and my other domains at 1and1, and wanted to keep it all together.
They are also a little cheaper.
